My husband and I dined here tonight while we are in town. I'm not a seafood lover so ordered the fettuccini alfredo with the blackened chicken. The noodles are even house made and had a perfect texture. Very good dish. He ordered the bento box which is called the TV Dinner. It came with a crab cake and sauce, go go salad (greens with feta, cranberries, pecans and house made balsamic dressing), shrimp and grits as well as gumbo (shrimp and crab was an up charge). He thought all of it was excellent, especially the gumbo. Our server, Steven, was fantastic. So kind. He never let our drinks go empty and had a lovely demeanor. I will definitely request his section in the future. Finally, we finished with the Jack Daniels chocolate mousse pie. I can't recommend it enough! read more

Saw all the reviews and talked to people who recommended this place. First let's start with the location. Strange to be in Boyd but cool that it is. We went at 7pm and drove past it twice because they have no sign or lights. Parking is not the best. Could not image it when it's busy. We walked in and immediately noticed my biggest pet peeve. The music does not match the restaurant. The music sucks so bad all you hear is the muffled beats. Hell for all I know it could have been from next door. Where's the Zydeco??? So we were greeted and seated fast. The waiter can over promptly. We ordered GOGO Seafood Gumbo and Crab Dip. The crab dip was good but the crab was shredded really fine like canned or bagged. The garlic toast was done well. Now to the Gumbo. I expect more from the Gumbo with the name of the place being the same. It wasn't bad just not what I was expecting. It was very watery to me and had no Okra in it. Some like some don't I guess, but it's thickens the Gumbo a little bit. Also not sure if they put Gumbo File in it but it wouldn't hurt my feelings to add a little more or have it on the table to o add yourself. Last it didn't come with crackers. Most do but I tried it without it. Like I said not bad just expected more. Now onto the Jambalaya Pasta. The sauce was good but a little under seasoned for my liking. The shrimp was cooked perfectly as was the sausage but the chicken was a little dry. All in all it was ok. Now on to the weirdest thing about this place. Bento Boxes???? Japanese mixed with Cajun!!! Ok well here goes. So Lobster Bento Box. Lobster Bisque was very good. Crab cake was as well. The slaw it sat on was surprisingly good. The Lobster Grilled Cheese was small and was nothing great. The Lobster Mac n Cheese was good for Mac n Cheese but didn't have any lobster in it. Lastly was the Stuffed Lobster Tail. The sauce was good but the tail itself was over cooked. What a bummer. I can say it was not worth the money. So looking around at the decor and it's was plain and dirty, dusty. They had big fishing lures hanging from the ceiling and the wires holding them was covered in dust, dirt. Even to tops of the lures themselves. While I was checking out the decorations I saw the board with the specials and deserts. It caught my eye......2 Die For Bread Pudding!!! We got it to go but before we left I had to open it and look. Well kill me already. Looked more like flan than bread pudding. When we got home we tried it and for sure it was not 2 die for. It was more like flan is all I can say. The sauce was the best part. Well we had to try it from all the recommendations and reviews , but I always give a new place a second try just to make sure. The bill was 94.00. Not sure it was worth it. We will see!!! read more

This place was so good! I cannot wait to go back. We all ordered something different so I was able to test taste a good amount of food and desserts :) ! I'm not a huge gumbo fan but it was really good! Next time I will be ordering the shrimp and grits with bread pudding for dessert. The bread pudding wasn't the prettiest site BUT it was the best tasting dessert (in my opinion) and they all tasted great! The service was pretty fast too even considering how busy they were! 100% recommend trying this place out! read more

We ordered to go and I'm glade we did. They were quick with the order. We ordered a shrimp plate, tv dinner box, crab dip, crab cake plate and 2 dessert: Jack Daniel chocolate mousse cake and pecan cheesecake. The desserts stole the show, they were both so light and airy and not as sweet. I definitely would come back for my desserts. Overall, great service and great food. Definitely recommend. read more

Wow! Small town ... huge flavor. This place is a must visit. Wednesday is apparently Prime Rib night and I can honestly say it is the best I've had even at the nicest steakhouses I've been to. My wife loves Cajun food and this place didn't miss. She got the Cajun "Bento Box" which had 4 different things and love it as well. Save room for dessert! That was amazing as well. The menu apparently changes weekly since they get fresh seafood and it depends on what they can get that week. Definitely give them a shot. Visiting family in Texas and was treated to this local favorite restaurant. Owned and run by a man from Louisiana. Food was outstanding, table service was prompt and courteous. Our party of four was seated almost immediately on a Saturday night at 6:30pm. But we considered ourselves lucky on that score. 2 people in our party had the Bento Box, which contained 4 different entree selections in small but adequate portions. ( shrimp and grits, Crab cake, gumbo and salad with candied pecans. 5 stars. The other people had a thick cut pork chop with some wonderful side dish and goat cheese salad and large bowl of gumbo. I had my family gather from hither and yon to try this place because I ate here several years ago and thought it was really good. My brother came from Decatur, my sister from Denton and we came from Dallas. And everyone was disappointed in everything we had except for the hushpuppies. And the salad. And I feel responsible for dragging everyone out here. Not sure if my tastes have just developed with age and experience or if this place has taken a tumble. I had the TV dinner, the bento box type sampler of salad, crab cake, gumbo, shrimp/grits. The salad was great. The crab cake OK. But I've had better gumbo and shrimp/grits everywhere else I've ever had them. The shrimp/grits were pale, undercooked and sad. The grits seemed like the malt o meal stuff my mother tried to make us eat back in the day. The gumbo tried hard but it was chewy and dense and salty. The rice was hard. The fried catfish basket was meh, the crab cakes just OK, and the orders of fried shrimp, blackened catfish and whatever pasta thing my sister had with shrimp, were mostly uneaten. So sorry family. Glad you could fill up on the byob though. And the service was great. The food not so much. read more

Absolutely LOVED this quaint, little gem in Boyd, Texas. This place is great for date night or family night!! They had a little play area just for the kiddos because I'm assuming their wait time gets absurd due to their well established waiting area. It took up a third of the restaurant. The food was cooked to perfection, no over cooked shrimp on my plate!! I ordered the Spicy Tomato Shrimp which was NOT spicy at all but very delicious. I ended adding a lot of hot sauce. My hubby ordered the Bento Box, which I must say, was very interesting. The crab cake was AMAZING, I could've had 10 of those babies. The vibe in the place is better now with the new owner. They're currently doing a little renovating, which is much needed. The crab dip app is outstanding. The fried catfish is actual farm raised catfish and always good. Jambalaya is also a fan favorite. The desserts are OUTSTANDING except the cherry pie, the crust isn't good but the other desserts are a must. Always a wait, the place is small. We have been there many times. Everytime was great until 2 weeks ago. The menu was downsized and several of our favorite items are no longer available. The service was not what it used to be. Wait-staff spent a lot of time behind the bar, discussing their personal lives. Usually we have to wait at least 15 minutes to be seated, but this time there was no wait. This should have been a clue, that something was not right. I order the TV dinner. The gumbo was lacking the usual spice. The shrimp and grits were bland. The salad was good, but the dressing was a little off. The crabcake was also bland. We are giong back next week, because that is where my granddaughter picked to have her birthday dinner. We have been going since it opened, 10+ years ago. We celebrate almost every birthday, graduation, etc at this place. The majority of the waitstaff has been with them a long time. It's always nice to see familiar faces. They do things a little different; no reservations, shorter hours, small menu. Not bad just different. A lot of rotating menu items, which isn't my favorite but the chicken and sausage gumbo is always a solid go-to if the main menu doesn't offer me my usuals. Please note: while delicious, the gumbo is not spicy. Don't expect to feel like you are in LA. And for your own sake order the 2die4!! They also have a pop up shop almost Saturdays- they mostly sell items you won't find on the restaurant menu. They are very active on Facebook! read more
