What a way to end the ski season in Austria with a spring skiing trip to Turracher Hoehe! This…read moretime we were only four people and chose to stay in one of the Alpinhuetten a little further up the slope. This group of huts are very modern, very clean, spacious and are run by Juri Feriendomizile Gmbh. The kitchen is stocked with everything you need to cook and the huts can house between 4 and 10 people comfortably. We were in the "Gams Huette". The rates depend on how many people are staying there and are very reasonable. The way to to huts is their only downfall. Since Turracherhoehe had so much snow this season, the pass to the huts was full of ice. Everyone needed to drive with their chains on or you were stuck at the bottom of the hill at the Meizeit Huettendorf. There was also not a lot of parking due to the snow, but for only one car it wasn't a problem. Skiing to the slope was also not a problem, but you have to pole your way back a bit. It was still worth it since the hut was so new and spacious. It would also be great for spring and summer hiking.

The dachstein Ice Cave is AWESOME. It can be visited by taking the gondola up to a station and then…read morea 10 minute walk up paved trails or one can hike from the base in Obertraun about 2 hours (I think). There is an admission charge even if one hikes up. They discourage photography inside the cave itself. Open year round I think, I was there in the summer. Definitely something that should be on the itinerary if you're going to the Salzkammergut

Directly located next in the middle of the ski region Katschberg (70km) you just get out of your apartment and start to ski. Free kids daycare is great too (Bolo club) and my favorite is free internet (although sometime last year they ran out of connections) and second the parking garage so no need to dig out your car when you leave :-) In the summer we go out exploring the great nature around here, waterfalls, lots of hiking trails, horseback riding for my daughter and much more.
