there's a host of activities and things to do on the grounds of Schonbrunn. if you wind up there late in the day, however, the queues for the palace/museum and zoo and other big attractions are a bit ridiculous, but you'll still want to make your schlep through Vienna's residential neighborhoods worth it. wait, not everyone decides to skip the U-Bahn in lieu of walking about 6 miles?
so, continue hiking through the park (always pack protein bars, you amateur) and get to the Gloriette.
it's one of the best views you can get of Vienna from a tower built on the royal grounds of the Habsburgs. it's maintained very well, and there's even a cafe here.
worth the (approx.) 4 Euro to go up here for the photos alone.
