This place is a little ways away from most of "the action", has plentiful on-site parking, and combines coffee shop + bakery + general store in one location. The store is relatively new to West Jefferson and opened within the last few years. It's family owned and operated, and the staff members who were working on the day of my visit could not have been lovelier. The only reason I'm not giving this place five stars is because I felt like the selection of merchandise in the general store was not as eclectic as most general stores I've visited. The majority of the merchandise either fell into what felt like a "live, laugh, love" version of a feminine / children's esthetic, or was downstairs in a section literally called "the man cave". With so many amazing local merchants and artists throughout the West Jefferson community, it would have been nice to see a few more options that fell between these two groups and were maybe a bit more neutral. While I very much enjoyed exploring the store and looking through everything, when it came time to actually purchase something for myself or to use as a gift, I really couldn't settle on anything that would be a good fit.

We were greeted immediately by the owner, Martha , who was as friendly and nice as anybody we have ever encountered. The three of us got into a conversation that lasted for most of an hour. Martha was so friendly, cordial, interesting and anxious to learn more about us as strangers and consequently we were enamored over her background as well. Our conversation centered on our backgrounds and respective families and frankly became a highlight of our day and time in Mount Airy. She was such an interesting individual who obviously loves what she does professionally. Also the most ANNOYING thing is when they are about to close they literally come over the entercom and announce they are closing in 30 minutes 25 minutes 20 minutes 15 minutes 10 minutes in 5 minutes !!!!! What do they think this accomplishes except making people nervous and anxious? People obviously are going to leave but they want everyone out of their door right at the close time, in retail that's never going to happen but they get nasty about it and then let's talk about how you have to wait 15 minutes or longer no bs to check out!! How do you never schedule enough people to run a register accordingly to your sales and productivity? Again there are a few great employees but they never last long because they work them to death by making them check people out alone! This wod have for 5 stars if it weren't for that!
