However, this station is still pretty cool, but then again a lot of these major regional stations are pretty cool, namely because the buildings date back to the early railway period. Oh, and there will also be buses waiting for you when you step off the train to basically take you to destinations that are further afield.

Typical country town train station, has all the necessary requirements - train tracks, local bus…read morestop, platform etc. there is only one platform so very difficult to get on the wrong train.... Actual I would go further and nearly impossible given there came only be one train at the platform at any one time. Connecting buses to other towns/cities stop right out the front of the station and there is a local bus stop on the station side of the street. The car park is a reasonable size but gets full quite quick when the train comes in with people waiting to pick up weary travellers. There are covered seating out the front of the station ready for those who need to wait to be picked up. Taxis can be found in the station rank with the arrival of each bus and train. A timetable for services from the station can be found near the entrance on the outside, accessible even if the station is closed. In side there is a desk where very helpful staff can be found to help you with your tickets or enquiry. There is some seating inside for those hot/rainy/cold days along with a vending machine with all the usual snack suspects and public toilets. A walkable distance into the centre of town.

I admit they knew me from my regular commute but common sense prevailed. I say keep manned railaway stations for such personal service. Toilest are clean, an adequate waiting area, love to see a Barrista attend for the morning peak service at 5.15am and 6.30am ie a van hint hint Mr/Mrs Station Master..... as no coffee at that hour for 2hrs 30 mins is hard on the addiction.

Anyway, it acts as the terminus for the V-Line from Melbourne, and is also a major stop for the XPT that travels between Sydney and Melbourne. The interesting thing was that apparently they only sell tickets here during set times, but they were open when I arrived, despite the fact that the sign said otherwise. It's a pretty nice station, and has been kept in good order, especially the waiting room. I certainly quite like it.

This is actually quite a new station - sort of. There used to be a station here ages ago, back when…read morethe railway line when all the way up to Whittlesea, but as governments are prone to do, they decided to rip it up. Not surprisingly, they have since laid it back down again, and built some new stations, and this is one of them. Look, it certainly serves its purpose, and is also quite large, and even has some good facilities, something that many of the newer, and revamped, stations are taking on board. Yeah, this station certainly does work, and it is much better than others that I have encountered.

It is also quite an old station, which I do quite appreciate, clearly being the style of station that I like. The other thing is that trains do regularly come through here, either terminating, or passing through, which makes it pretty convenient.

Okay, this might work if it happened to be located in some hipster part of Melbourne, but it isn't - it's Craigieburn, which basically means that it really appears as if the railway station was done on the cheap. In another sense, it sort of feels as if it was supposed to be temporary, but ended up becoming permanent. Still, at least it has restrooms.
