A Road?! He's...reviewing...a...a road?
That's right folks! This is my Yelp profile and I'm gonna review whatever I damn-well please!
The Glenn Hwy, affectionately/infamously referred to by locals as "The Glenn" starts in Anchorage and ends in Glennallen.
I'm mainly reviewing the large scenic part of it that begins in Palmer, in the west, and terminates in Glennallen, in the east. Also known as: AK-1.
Wow. What.a.drive.
You start in rural Palmer where 6,000 ft north face of Pioneer Peak imposes in the distance. As you make your way west you've got great views of the Chugach range to the south for nearly the entire drive. For almost 30 miles of the drive you can see the magnificent Matanuska Glacier (http://www.yelp.com/biz/matanuska-glacier-glacier-view) near the unincorporated area of Glacier View, AK. There are some great places to eat in this area:

As you near Glennallen you can catch HUGE views of ginormous Mt Drum. It pops on the horizon like Mt Rainier does in the Seattle metro.
Once you hit Glennallen, well...there ain't much to do in Glennallen. They have an extremely busy gas station full of Alaska kitsche, as well as two foodtrucks.
Now, you need to decide: North to Fairbanks or South to Valdez?
Or, if your more adventurous: North to Nebesna or South to McCarthy?
Bonus: this is usually plowed pretty well in the winter. I frequently go ice climbing near Caribou Cree, in a front wheel drive, with no problems. read more
