One word keeps popping into my head when describing the Donauzentrum: LARGE!…read more It just keeps going on and on and on. A take a right and you are over the road and into a huge food court/movie complex. A little further on though a narrow walkway and it opens up onto another huge area of shops. Wow! For a "city centre" shopping mall this is pretty impressive. So far the easiest shopping centre to get to (no free buses required here) just a few stops away from Stephansplatz and directly outside Kagran station. All the main stores and chains are here as well, including the aforementioned Cinema and food hall. Such interesting food options include SUBWAY, a crêpe stand and Wok Ice! Very varied options. Well lit and bright and clean this has got to be my favourite shopping centre as yet in Vienna.

They adapted a little bit. There are leather-like chairs and a couch and there is also a built-in aquarium with nice fish for waiting children to see - great idea. No crazy guards annoying customers, super! But the shopping center suffers a bit, because of the U1-station Kagran right at the opposite street and the people that hang around there. People, women with small children, children alone and handicapped have to enter the doorways whilst drunkards, all kinds of weirdos are almost preventing them from entering the underground station, some even ask, almost force you to give them some money - THAT keeps customers from coming and buying! Besides THAT is a very very bad reputation for the city of Vienna!!! The shopping center is still great, but be careful on the way to go there!!! The guards should not be in the center, but at the U1-station!!!!

Wien Mitte - The Mall is the biggest and newest mall right in the center of Vienna and can be…read moreeasily reached by trains from all directions, especially from the airport and by undergrounds U3 and U4. It opened to the public on Thursday, April 25th, 2013. The most stupid thing you can do with a new mall is not to show any direct links to the shops and restaurants on the homepage of the mall. The homepage of the mall has a very ugly design and does not give the information people are looking for when they want to get to know more about the location - no common sense at all!!! The design is very impressive, the technical security is at first sight ok. The shop mix is very good, the elevators work and there are enough. There are also enough staircases and escalators. The position and amount of securities is good. Although thier knowledge about what to find where is poor. There are some information points which is good and compensates for that. But you ask the securities first when you are new to the center and don't know where the info points are. The big plus is that all major transportation companies have information shops there. CAT - train to the airport has the biggest office at the Mall. Wiener Linien - is responsible for all Viennese undergrunds, trams and busses. OEBB - the main Austrian train company. There are also enough ticket machines and monitors. The big minus is that there are already lots of malls in and around Vienna. There are not really new shops and people have not much more money to spend. Tourists of course will drop in coming from the airport, as it is one of the major stops of the airport train, but they would not spend much money there as they want to do some sightseeing first before spending money for shopping. AND - because of the amount of people you will have problems at the train and underground stations on the long run. The restaurants are great, but this also means that all other shops and restaurants around will lose business, economically not very well-planned.

However, when we got there they said their kitchen was backed up and that we'd have to wait at least 30 minutes. Instead, we looked online, crossed the road, and found this place within a block. This is a no-frills Chinese eatery. They have 3 - 4 tables along each wall as you enter. There is a central aisle that takes you up to the counter for to-go orders. The staff is all Chinese. They provided a menu that had a mix of Chinese, German, and English. We were thus able to find a few dishes to share. Three of us split some noodles, fried dumplings, and one or 2 other dishes. We were hungry enough to finish everything. It was quality food. Prices seemed fair. They seemed to do a steady stream of take out as well as what appeared to be locals just stopping in briefly for a bowl of noodles or the like. If you like Chinese food and are just looking for something simple and quick, this is a good choice.

The quality of the food is really good and the prices are very reasonable. This place is sort of an Asian fusion restaurant; you can easily order sushi as well as some Chinese, Thai, and Vietnamese inspired dishes. That being said, don't expect a huge variety of the various foods above; you have a little bit of this and a little bit of that, and for a place like this, which is a casual dining place, it's suffice. Some of the delicious starters are the fried chili chicken wings as well as the shrimps, though as a friend of mine told me, he wasn't really a fan of the shrimps because it had a little bit too much breading on it. The lunch specials are a very good value. For as little as € 7, you can get a plate of crispy duck with mixed vegetables, a scoop of rice, and a bowl of soup. There are also other various dishes as well as specials on the sushi and the noodle soup. The customer service at this place is great. The people there are very friendly and accommodating. Whenever I have the day off, and don't have to worry about coming in to work my regular shift at my job, this is also a place I like to go to have a quality budget meal and a couple of beers. Although there is absolutely nothing wrong with the fast "Noodle Box" stands all around town, this is the type of place that I prefer to go to, a casual restaurant where I can sit down, have a few beers and some appetizers or a meal, and just chill out. If anything at all, perhaps it would be better to eat here first before going to the Interspar Supermarket for your groceries. I've always heard that you should never go grocery shopping when you're hungry, so you end up purchasing more than you need! So this is the place to go to fill up before doing that.

From the second floor there is a large bridge leading to the banks of the Danube. Could be one of the nicest sights from a shopping centre anywhere. The centre itself is quite small and rambling over 5 floors in 3 separate buildings. There is a large UCI cinema here and a Holmes place gym and Monkey play centre for the kids on the fifth floor reached by one of the quickest elevators I've ever been in. There are plenty of eateries here including a Subway and TGI Fridays and various shops of the slightly cheaper variety. Also a largish Saturn too. My tip is that if you live near to the centre then its worth going to pay a visit but there are nicer shopping centres a little further outside of the centre of town.
