Erika was very responsive over email and phone and we determined it would work well for me to see her twice while here. I'm so glad I did! Her manner is warm and engaging, and her expertise is obvious. The setting is pleasant which is nice - more like a spa than a doctor's office. I'm very pleased I found this place and just wish it were where I actually lived!

I'm WAY overdue in writing this review! After years of trying and eventually being told by a…read morespecialist that I had unspecified infertility (and given a measly 3% chance of conceiving on our own!), I found Erika and Practice Longevity through a friend. Erika was warm and willing to take time to talk in depth about my treatment plan. We decided I would wait to begin fertility treatments until the acupuncture had about 3 months to work. Within the first month, my cycle changed noticeably, so I felt hopeful. Before we could schedule the fertility treatment at the end of the third month, we got pregnant. No one (and I mean no one besides us) was as excited as Erika was when I shared the news. It was awesome! I continued with treatments for the first trimester to keep the good things going. I have kept Erika's card in my wallet with me ever since so I can share it with women who are trying for a baby. Some people have a calling and Erika is definitely fulfilling hers!

After having one failed IVF I wanted to make sure we got it right the second time. I'd heard that…read moreacupuncture had high success rates so I found Orchid Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture. Rebecca was wonderful and so was the rest of the staff. During my first IVF cycle I had a lot of symptoms and lethargy but during my second cycle with acupuncture, I had very few to no symptoms. This made the second cycle super easy and relaxing. I started one month before beginning my second cycle and continued throughout the cycle as per the acupuncture protocol. After just one or two sessions with Rebecca I already felt more balanced and even a bit younger in my body. When I started IVF drugs and as they began to become more intense acupuncture kept my body feeling balanced. I hardly noticed the drugs at all which was a huge difference from the first cycle. During the first cycle I gained 15 lbs and this cycle I lost 10 lbs, thankfully. Besides making the process easier on my body and mind it was great having someone to talk to who knew what I was going through. Rebecca asked detailed questions and had answers for my questions about what could be going on in my body. It was like having a good friend to talk to who had gone through what I was going through. Once I had my embryo transfer and did the acupuncture protocol for that part of the procedure I was satisfied that I'd done all I could to become pregnant. While I was enduring the 2ww I had an appointment and it helped me to relax, detox and feel like I could do something more to make things happen. Then when I found out I was pregnant, I continued through my first trimester. At this stage acupuncture helped ensure that my uterus got the blood supply it needed to hold on to the embryos. I could actually feel the difference when she put a crown of needles at the top of my head. Acupuncture and other forms of body work have another benefit besides the local and systematic benefits, they force us to lay still and relax for 30-45 minutes. Relaxation is so key to having a successful IVF cycle. Rebecca has music or meditations you can listen to. I usually listened to an IVF meditation for the stage of the cycle I was in. I think overall the reason I produced 21 eggs the second cycle vs 6 eggs the first cycle, and am now pregnant with twins is because I chose to include acupuncture in my treatment.

Since I've been pregnant, I've developed some back and shoulder tension as well as headaches and decided it was probably time I give this whole massage thing a real try. Side note: I am not a fan of people touching me (Most notably strangers) and especially as a pregnant person. Orchid made me feel very comfortable from the beginning. My masseuse, Jennifer, was very communicative. She asked me questions and provided recommendations and techniques I can do on my own. It helped my headaches almost immediately and I find a lot of value in my monthly visits. They specialize in a variety of women focused issues from fertility through post-partum and offer additional services (Of which I have yet to try) including acupuncture, reiki, herbal medicine, etc. The prices are reasonable and the service is great. It's tucked away in a calm Bay View neighborhood, parking is never an issue and it just adds to the calming effects of your treatment. I would highly recommend Orchid for first timers as well as people with special needs or requirements.

They are actually quite nice people and they do a good job but they could not cure my specific problem. I thought, if I tried an expensive acupuncturist, I would get better results. I tried another acupuncturist in Thiensville, who was expensive about $100/session. She was no different from Milwaukee community acupuncturists (in terms of placement of needles etc). Then I came across Joan's East meets west therapeutics. The way Joan does acupuncture, is entirely different and far superior! She is very specific in trying to pin pint the exact and best locations for putting the needle in. She puts each needle in very carefully and pushes it slowly to find the "Xi" spot; The others, just rapidly put the needles in but you can tell that Joan is trying to find the right spots. Also, while pulling out, Joan will twirl the needle a bit.. which apparently helps with healing. Joan also checks your over all body structure. She has a Phd from boston university. Unfortunately, Joan was not able to resolve my issue (which was a tibio fibular joint pain) but still, I would highly recommend Joan. Even after I stopped going to see her, she still sent me text message about which exercise to use. She is very caring and is well worth the expense of $150/hr.
