Another free Glasgow museum. Another Glasgow museum that could do with a 'kiss and a cuddle' - you know, a wee bit of TLC. This one, might have a slightly better chance of getting some, though this is doubtful. It is the recession after all and I find it difficult to believe that this is a hot spot amongst tourists and, especially so, with Glaswegians.
Despite, this the museum does pretty well for what it is. It's a relatively small and simple affair which means that you can easily whizz round it in half an hour if you like.
On the other hand, people genuinely interested in history - whether this be in relation to the police force, Glasgow, or general terms - could just as easily spend a few hours wandering round and reading through all the information.
This information, as you can imagine, is about the establishment, running and changes in the police force that have happened over the years. These years being from 1779 till 1975 when Strathclyde Police Force was formed. I suspect, but am not sure for certain, that history stops here in order to shield the police from any recent and modern embarrassments.
Anyway, it's a small, free little museum that's worth popping into - especially if you are struggling to find something to occupy the kids this Easter Break. For this trouble you'll get to have a nosey at uniforms, helmets, weapons, restraints and documents with hints and tips for police training. read more
