Went at lunch hour and the place was dead. The place was very messy it's concerning when the heating vents are totally covered in dust. Looking back at the kitchen area there was a lot of food on the ground. There were also a lot of spills on the countertops that went ignored. Great prices, good setup of "buffet", I like that they use local fresh produce and they tell u where it's from. The soup they serve is hella bomb! Worst restaurant ever. They do not deserve 1 star but that's the only way they let you review. Table top had NO screws attaching it to the base of the table. My 8 and 5 year old daughters SAT DOWN at the table and it flipped on them sending burning hot chili paste and chili oil all of them. Burned my daughters skin. Received no help from the staff. Instead received rude service like WE had done something wrong. Could be a law suit. I have never given a bad review in my life but this one needs to be heard. I've been to Mongolian BBQ joints all over California and this one is by far the worst. I ate solo for dinner (all you can eat). I was given no choice between soups or rice--I received dry, yet overly sticky plain white rice with no seasoning whatsoever and an "egg-flour soup" with a severe dearth of egg and a broth that tasted like Campbells chicken noodle (No, not a good thing). I was excited to see bok choy available, but unfortunately it was wilted (along with the spinach). I piled up my first plate and used a plethora of sauces, but was not given any spicy sauce options--apparently they are catering to the weak of stomach! I resigned to put sriracha on my food at the table. My first bowl was meh. I went back to try and fix things up differently for my second. Right before cooking my food, the cook asked if I wanted garlic powder--I decided to accept, just to see--and then he proceeded to dump more garlic powder on my food than I've used since I was a nine-year-old trying to learn how to cook. The resulting food was pasty and tasted like burnt beef jerky. The only thing saving this place from only 1 star is that the service wasn't bad (not that it was good). read more

I have been to Mongolian BBQs before, but this was the first chain I have experienced. They replaced India Oven, which replaced Panda South. I like how the meats are thinly sliced for ease of cooking. But I was perturbed to see slices of turkey, that's not very Chinese. They have everything laid out for you in an assembly line: first add meat, pile noodles on top, add vegetables, and then top it off with ladles of sauce. If you are unsure which sauces to use and/or how much sauce to pour, there are suggestions on a sign. Then hand your bowl over to one of their chefs for cooking. The staff is cordial and efficient. My food was cooked thoroughly and quickly on their massive grill. Signs on the wall state that their vegetables are local. Meals come with a bowl of soup, an egg roll, and a small bowl of rice. The soup was very good, as was the egg roll. My meal was outstanding. Of course at a Mongolian BBQ, if your meal isn't good, it's your fault. You made it. But I have two complaints. First of all, they need to turn on the AC, or crank it up to 11. It was hotter inside the restaurant than outside, and we are talking about Turlock in July. Second, and what really put a damper on the experience for me, is the sign which says "no doggie bags." You mean I can't take my leftovers home with me? I have never been to a Mongolian BBQ where I couldn't take home my leftovers. I am used to loading up the bowl until the top is dome-shaped, cooking it down until it overflows the bowl just a little. The food is awesome, but there have been times ive walked in and waited 5 or 10 minutes before even being acknowledged that ive walked in to the establishment, when theres little to no other customers there. I rate this new restaurant 1-star for now, but would like to give it another shot in 3-6 months. I'd love to see improvements with the quality of staff, food & the environment. I've been to plenty of Mongolian BBQ's up and down California and was disappointed to spend $9 for a not-so-tasty dish. Yes, I understand that I created my own flavors, but I've also created my own flavors in all the other Mongolian BBQ restaurants I've been to and did not have any problems until here. I was surprised to find that there was no sauce on the line to add for spiciness - especially when there was a sign directly over the sauces that said something like, "Real Mongolians like spice." With the amount of staffing during the lunch rush, I was surprised to see no one stepping up to make sure the serving area was stocked with all ingredients OR wiping down any scattered food. Since some of the veggie containers were empty, my fiance even had to pick off what was leftover that had fallen on to the counter to get his own serving. Don't get me wrong - the staff was friendly! But I would think that if a restaurant is brand new and wants to retain customers, better training would be involved to have the staff more upbeat & inviting. Quality over quantity! Bottom line, if you're looking to have some yummy Asian noodles for a good price, I'd personally choose to go to Ju Ju Thai in downtown Turlock. That place NEVER lets me down! I have been going to GK Mongolian barbecue for many years before this spot in Turlock opened. I enjoy the food and the fact they have long since expanded out of stockton and put their new roots in the city of Turlock. However, their are some concerns of this particular establishment. One being the cleanliness. I do understand that people are messy when making their plate; but, if there are not many customers, there shouldn't be any reason for not wiping down the counters more frequently. I will say that on the other side, the staff are very kind and friendly. The food is good and the portion sizes are completely up to you. The price is also good for the portions and quality of the food. I especially recommend this place for hungry college student's on a budget since they also give student discounts. Baller or a budget? I am not one to post reviews about how awful or how good restaurants are. I just simply return if I love it or stop going if I hate it. We have been to GK several times and never had a bad experience. Today on the other hand we decided to get GK and what a sweet surprise. There was a roach in our food. A couple of bites in and there it was. I am so extremely disappointed not only bc there was a roach in our food but with the way it was handled. I called them up and let them know and all they could do was issue a refund. I spoke to the "store manager Aaron" and he had nothing to say besides that he already has a pest control service. They obviously knew that they have an issue. I am so disgusted and so disappointed. Least to say we will never return and this one time I will let everyone know how disgusting this place is. Cooks were also very friendly aND even made recommendations. I thought our meal was very good with lots of flavor. If you like it hot just a spoon of the red chili sauce they have on the table and mix it in your bowl. I added some soy sauce to the soup and my bowl and I thought everything tasted great. The only reason I'm rating 1 star is that rating zero stars is not an option. Placed an order online for delivery. It never arrived. When I called to find out what happened, the manager, Daniel, was VERY dismissive, unprofessional and didn't seem to know what he was doing. He referred to me as DUDE and when I said "Don't DUDE me," he hung up on me. He appeared to have NO interest in helping to make it right. If this is truly your manager, hopefully, he'll learn to deal with customers in a manner more suited to keep people coming to the restaurant and not how I feel right now, that I never want to go there again. By the way, my order was over $58 and I got NOTHING to show for it. My entire 1-star rating is on one person... DANIEL! UPDATE: I recontacted the store and another manager made it right and stated issues with staff will be addressed. This place is so horribly managed, the staff are not on top of cleaning the area. After a while I got irritated and wiped down the counter top around the food dispensers myself! I'm picky about food, this place is fresh and healthy. You can get any type of meat, pork, chicken, turkey, beef, or shrimp, then add veggies, big variety. Then noodles and sauce. I would have given this place 5 stars as overall I have had great food and great customer service. I had always forgotten to check in and write a review. However the last two times I did not have a pleasant experience. My concern/issue is the cook. During my previous visit he never asked me if I wanted garlic powder and added water (alot) instead of asking if I would like to add more sauce. I was actually surprised by how fast he cooked it. (Come to think of it, I believe I got food poisoning the next morning. Of course I cannot say it was from here for sure) I also noticed that a good amount of food ended up on floor as he was quickly cooking it. When I got home, I noticed the box was only half way full. Not sure what he did with the rest as I am very good at making sure the box is full. Tossed it up to a bad night. Went again today. Same cook. I added my meat and pressed it down. He came over and told me that I am not allowed to smash my food down. Claimed sign said so. I double checked and did not see this sign and informed him of no such sign. He informed me the he would be putting one up. At this point I just should have left. But was willing to give him yet another chance. When I handed him the food he quickly added water. I called him on it and he gave me some bs excuse that it was to be able to move food around and that he was going to ask me what sauce to add as it was a bit dry. (With attitude) I also overheard him complaining to the host about me pushing down on food in my bowl. (For the record, I have done the same thing at numerous place like this for many years now and never once have I been told not to smash my food down) Host did not say anything to me. Of course food flying everywhere. I asked him to add some chili paste but couldn't remember it is called chili paste. Well he decided to give me a lesson in what was chili paste and chili oil etc. But with a condescending tone. I decided to remain calm and not let his poor attitude ruin my evening. My cousin is a vegetarian and he made sure to cook her food first and offered to cook her food alone so it wasn't cooked with meat. I asked for no soup from the waitress and she brought it anyways. My mom had to get up three times to ask for drink refills and the two server girls were chatting the entire time we were there. Go in, tell them if you're dining in or getting something to go, they give you a bowl then you walk over to the little bar area and you get to "hand" pick (they have tongs) a frozen meat (cut in thin slices: i.e., pork, chicken, beef), noodles (one option), veggies (i.e., mung beans, mushrooms, spinach, onion, bell pepper, baby corn, etc; they also have peanuts if you wanna get creative). Pack your food into the bowl, pick a sauce (they have like 8 sauces? If not more? I recommend the House Sauce) and then hand the uncooked food bowl to the kind cook behind the bar of raw veggies. You get to watch your food cook & sizzle on a flat grill. The guys who work there are polite, professional, quick and great at what they do.
