Walking down the street in Brooklyn and judging, " Brooklyn" is boring which it's the same things here that who you know and you're invited or not, that is the CULTURES I live in the most.
Stockholm requires some effort to understand, so if you just want to be a clueless tourist without learning anything, that's on you.I didn't even stay in Gamla Stan (Old Town) that's just a touristy place I passed by. Instead, I stayed in Södermalm, visited Kungsholmen, and enjoyed the area way south near the big dome (Globen). I stopped by a cafe in SoFo because a local barista suggested I check it out. Maybe it's because I have a cool vibe and a welcoming, open heart, but that concept of a "cold" and "distant" culture didn't exist for me at all. Everyone was incredibly welcoming.
I went down into the basement scenes where there's a heavy hip vibe. Unfortunately, there wasn't a lot of showcasing happening because it was summer. It turns out a lot of things in Nordic countries happen in the winter rather than the summer. Still, I loved being there. The atmosphere was completely wide open for a mix of old, young, hip, chill, and digital nomads, but mostly just locals. I didn't see a single tourist while I was there which I consider myself traveler because I don't do tourist things. There's even a guitar shop down there that hosts weekend events during the winter. You can just sit outside and really feel the SoFo atmosphere, which is one of the artsiest neighborhoods in Södermalm.
There are no second thoughts for me: I'll definitely be back to Södermalm. As a winter lover, I'm absolutely coming back during the winter next time. More YELP in Nordic pls ! ! !
