Her techniques were geared toward creating dependence, something she admitted was based on her own mental health history. She also violated confidentiality and made herself unavailable during a crisis situation, hanging up the phone on a traumatized client. I feel compelled to post to protect clients from an unfortunate experience that compromises and even accentuates mental health problems. The return phone call I received was not an offer of help or a referral... it was an angry, accusatory mess. She was LIVID that I called her and immediately began angrily lecturing me about her issues with my insurance company, and demanding to know who my primary care physician was, making me feel horrible for trying to contact her. She "apoligized" twice about her tone (it remained aggresive) but never once inquired about me or why I was seeking treatment. I tried to de-escalate the situation by saying I was sorry I bothered her, I didn't appreciate or deserve her tone or the yelling, and suggested she call the insurance company to unload on them since her anger was meant for them. This. Set. Her. OFF!! She was mid rant about how she will never call them when I finally had to just blurt out "I'm not engaging in this, goodbye." I had to hang up on an enraged stranger because she wouldn't stop yelling at me. I'm in disbelief that anyone in any profession would behave this way.
