Wow! What a bad time with takeout here! So I ordered 3 things: one sushi roll, crab Rangoon, and chicken fried rice. Simple enough, right? Wrong, I guess! When I called in, I was told it would take 20-30 minutes... wrong again. I got there after 25 minutes and waited about a half an hour there for my food. Had take-out. The "blacken filet" and teriyaki chicken dinners with fried rice. The rice was tasteless and just brown rice- no veggies or add-ins at all. The filet was pretty good, but really bland as well. The chicken was over-tenderized. Overall, the food resembled frozen-entree or mall cafe court fare. Every time I come back to my hometown, I must eat here at least once, if not 3 times. The wait can occasionally be long, but this is the burden of any excellent restaurant. My family went there for Christmas last winter, and the service was great. The bar was a little small, but we were all able to crunch in there comfortably to watch the Packer game. :D The food was good, very nice selection, but it was a little pricey for the quantity. My husband and I ate there for the first time last week and it was extremely disappointing. Our calamari appetizer was undercooked-very tough and chewy. Both of our entrees were overcooked. My husband's seared tuna was dry, white, and tasted like cardboard. My Peking duck was flavorless and dry as a bone. We will not be returning. I actually thought there was a mistake with the linch portion. Unless I was served a kid's meal, the grading here is F. Let's perfect this food rating with the actual taste. Have you ever been to Panda Express? We're not too far off the reservation here. In fact, I prefer Panda Express because it's half the price! A chicken and vegetable dish came with VERY little chicken and apparently the chestnuts and mushrooms are the easiest vegetable to grab to fulfill the description. Boring. Grading here is a D-. How is it possible to taste so much like a chain? This place belongs at the mall and should be rated accordingly. I will not be going back; it's easier to order better food, for less, and have it delivered to mi casa. Pass! read more

Read great things so I was totally willing to wait the 15 minutes which was actually more like 35 for a table. The place was filled and I was super excited assuming everyone knew something I didn't. When the food finally arrived another 35 minutes later (after the couple who arrived 30 minutes after us had finished eating) the salad starter was tasty and the California rolls were fresh but for some reason the wrapping was tough hard to bite through and the rolls would fall apart rather than break in half. I don't know enough about sushi to know why other than it was tougher than usual to eat. I ordered the General Tso lunch my usual go to. The portion size was okay and the meat was white meat and good quality it's just that the pieces of meat were huge and there was absolutely no sauce on the plate just barely coating the chicken. I actually cut the pieces in to fours and used the spicy mayo from the table to add flavor to tough flavorless chicken. There was no salt or pepper on the table ( my pet peeve for restaurants) the chicken could have surely used it. I left 2 hours later with a box of big tough chicken pieces and totally unsatisfied. Love love love this place. My boyfriend and I are huge fans of sushi and would often go to Nakashima for a good meal... until we discovered Gingerootz! Not only is it way cheaper, it's way better. I have tried some kind of lightly glazed and breaded shrimp which was amazing.. we've also had their sesame chicken and chicken teriaki/noodles bowl.. all great! They are fairly expensive based on the small amount of food you get.. It was fine, though, because I have to admit that I ate it all. Mmm... let's just say I'd eat it but I'd never order it. Anyway, for the entree I opted to customize my own bowl of noodles. For the price, it was a much smaller portion that I expected. That aside, the flavors were spot on. I was afraid GingeRootz would give me a really weird, wanna-be Asian noodle dish, but it had all the flavors and textures I'm familiar with, in terms of chow fun, with a little something extra. The menu has a good variety. Between all the orders at our table, I was able to try the sushi (the CR roll was my favorite), the salad (with a suprisingly light peanut vinegrette) the build your own stir-fry (endless combinations) and a few lunch entrees. All was good, except one lunch entree which was spiced much hotter than any of the other dishes that were marked "hot." Consistency is important. We like spicy Asian food, but this particular dish was inedible. Also, we've been there a few time now and the hostess staff just doesn't get seating. If the restaurant is not crowded, why seat parties right next to each other? Also, if a group comes in with little kids--which I WOULDN'T recommend here, don't place them right next to a table of a couple or couples who are out for an adult evening. GingerRootz is a nice date destination but don't be afraid to ask for a certain table, the host staff won't choose a good one for you. read more

This is by far my favorite restaurant to date. Everything on the menu is good, but the Crystal Shrimp is DELICIOUS. I wish I was there right now. Plus, you can sign up for www.punchh.com and get a free $10 meal after 5 meals. Great atmosphere, I especially enjoy sitting near the fish tank.
