I love Ginger!! They serve so far the best Vietnamese pho soup I've ever had! I'm a food major in school, so I'm very critical when it comes to flavor & ingredient. The broth they use is simply amazing, it's rich while fresh, when the noodle soaks in the flavor, and you spoon a thin slice of beef, some parsley and the soup, the taste is heavenly! Their freshly squeezed juice and Thai Tea are my favorites too, I just love how nature their food taste. I was just visiting Ann Arbor for a few days, but ate there almost every lunch with their short opening hours. Wow! Just had the beef pho and the summer rolls - let me just start with what a deal. So much food for $8 and $4, respectively. The meat is all from Knight's, everything tastes fresh and is packed with flavor! The pho is better than Tomukun and I love Tomukun...the broth is delicious, and garnishes are nice. Ginger deli is a little cute fast restaurant where you can get your Vietnamese fix. They have chairs outside to eat. A lot of people mostly buy to go tho. My favorite is the beef pho. Even though the bowl looks small it's actually pretty filling and the iced Thai tea slap. The chicken banh mi is really good too! The bread is crispy in the right spots. I had my first meal at Ginger last night and was very impressed. They have good food with plenty of vegetarian options at great prices. The owner was also very friendly. I ordered the vegetarian Pho, which was so good that I went back to order the vegetarian summer rolls, which were also quite good. Highly recommended. I plan to come back for many more meals. So happy this place is here!! Went back for the 2nd time today and loved it! The vegetarian pho is so tasty and has a fantastic broth. I love the to go containers, the woman taking orders is super friendly, and from what the rest of my party said, the beef pho was yummy and the banh mis were satisfying. The only reason I gave it 4 stars vs the 5 I would have given the first time I tried it was because they did not include the sriracha in any of our pho orders today. The owners are very sweet and I would like them to succeed. But I keep running into the same issues there. First, they often run out of certain items well within the lunch time period (i.e., before 2pm). Second, for a window walk-up restaurant, they're painfully slow. After you order you wait and wait and wait for them to call your name and hand you your food. They've had more than enough time to work out these issues, and I can't justify going there at this time. Perhaps I'll try them again in a year and see if they've improved. I wish them well. read more

Love the new Ginger Deli on the corner of Liberty and Division! Main menu items are Yummy pho (noodle soup), summer rolls, banh mi (baguette sandwiches) and a shaved ice with several topping options. The beef pho is very good but the vegetarian pho is unbelievable. They serve the pho in a unique container so that, if you take it to go the broth stays separate and can be reheated and poured into the noodles and other stuff to keep it fresh and not soggy. Both banh mi are wonderful with a little zing and not too dry. The bread is homemade and delicious, although it could be crustier and I wonder where the heels go? Not wasted I hope, but I have never gotten one on my sandwich. The shaved ice (SnowMazing) is fabulous and you could do a new combination every day. It's great to eat on the patio or get your order to-go. A great new addition to the A2 restaurant scene. read more

Becoming one of my favorite spots in the area for a quick bite. I've tried all the non vegetarian items on the menu and i like each one. Summer rolls are fresh and dipping sauces are all delicious. Admittedly not that familiar with vietnamese food but beef pho and pancetta bahn mi are becoming staples of my diet. Food always seems fresh and consistent. I would also be ok with drinking nothing but thai iced tea for the rest of my life. That stuff is amazing. The staff is friendly and they always have pretty girls working the register window. Discovered the Ginger Deli walking along Liberty on a Saturday on the edge of spring. A warm bowl of vegetarian pho and a banh mi sandwich made a perfect light lunch for two. Fast efficient and satisfying, doesn't need more to be a good place to add to the regular rotation. read more

I gave the bhan mi another shot after having a bad experience with some scary looking aioli and a staff member who just gave me attitude about it--this time I asked for them to go light on the aioli and they assured me it was fresh--it's a crisp baguette and lovely marinated vegetables, also crisp. Delicious food, really. The pho is also excellent. Yes the place is drafty for winter, think of it as a hike-in-the-wall without walls and you'll appreciate the specialness. read more

Ginger Deli would do very well even in a large, competitive food scene city such as NYC, LA, or SF. Not that Ann Arbor doesn't have good food--it does--but it is definitely lacking in authentic, tasty Asian food. I've had banh mi at Sava's and the Lunch Room and they don't come close to the banh mi they serve at Ginger. That said, the food at Ginger is fresh and flavorful with lots of attention to detail. The bread is always perfectly soft and crusty (baked fresh in the AM every day!) and everything they serve is made to order with great care. Also, if you've seen the custom take-out packaging, you know they even put a lot of effort into user design (the owner use to work professionally in automotive design). Get the vegetarian banh mi with a soup, spring rolls, and a beet juice! Also, the staff here couldn't be friendlier and the owner is a great guy.
