    Dim sum
    Betty Q.

Dim sum was hot and fresh. Service was served in good time. Waitress was attentive and checked on us often. Clean and nice atmosphere. Restaurant takes reservations. Seating is usually not a long wait. Boss lady real nice. Parking on metered streets or park at the Beretania and Smith parking structure.

Chinese restaurant that offers dim sum and a lunch and dinner menu. We came here and tried the hot and sour soup, the minute chicken noodles, and the salted fish and chicken fried rice. Large portions and enough to take home. I think we may have ordered too much. We also tried some dim sum and it was not bad. Good option for family style meals. Street parking. Indoor seating. Casual. Come and create your own experience.

What horrible service only 1 table in restaurant at 8 pm when I come in. party winding down no new food coming out. Takes 50 minutes to make order. I understand that they are busy. But what are they think almost and hour for a order. I argue with customers who said I should wait . Would you? They want to challenge me so stupid. Just like management Old mei sum in same location used to do that for 3 orders of dim sum they still do. Irresponsible MGMT sojai. Look up that meaning.

I ordered takeout from here and spent over $200 for a group. Multiple items were not included in the box and other items, like the Chinese broccoli, cost $20 and came in a container smaller than my hand. Don't waste your time with this place.

I saw Ginger and Garlic on the "Must Try" listing on Grub Hub. Obviously I had to try it. This review includes a review of Grub Hub as well. Read and you'll understand why. We placed a simple order, (2) Baked Barbecue Pork Buns, (1) Pan Fried Bun stuffed with chicken and (1) order of Yongchow Fried Rice. I'm HIGHLY ALLERGIC to Fish, shellfish and especially shrimp. There was no description of how the Yongchow Fried Rice was prepared, so I added a note in all capital letters advising the restaurant of my allergies. "NO FISH NO SHELLFISH AND ESPECIALLY NO SHRIMP, I AM HIGHLY ALLERGIC". I've eaten at several Chinese restaurants and my allergies have always been addressed perfectly and any necessary precautions made. This was on a Tuesday night. After waiting 90 minutes checking the Grub Hub Tracking , it never changed from saying "Delivery Driver on his way to pick up your order" After another 30 minutes I finally complained to Grub Hub who cancelled my order and said I'll be refunded in 3-7 days. UNACCEPTABLE. It was now 8:00pm and Ginger and Garlic was closed for the night. Wednesday. I decided to be fair, not blaming the restaurant for the Tuesday debacle and placing another order at 5:00pm for the exact same order as what I had ordered on Tuesday night. I scheduled delivery for anytime between 7:45pm and 8:00pm. At 7:45pm, The Grub Hub driver texted me saying he was waiting at the restaurant and they hadn't even started my order. Shout out to the delivery driver for the order updates. At 8:05pm Delivery Driver texted me that they just started the order. At 8:40pm he texted me that my order was finally ready and that he was on his way, he arrived more than an hour late, just like Tuesday with the correction that this time I received my food. I originally blamed Tuesday night's debacle on Grub Hub but it appears to have been due to Ginger and Garlic not preparing the food in a timely manner and they closed without preparing my order at all instead they left the ticket open and closed the restaurant. This according to Grub Hub Management. Sorry if this is long, but it'll make you appreciate how long 90 minutes feels. I'm starving at this point, ready to eat and ready to review. The "Baked" Barbecue Pork Buns were steamed, not baked. The Yongchow fried rice was Char Siu, beef and SHRIMP. Lots of small cocktail shrimp. I was not very happy. I double checked the order and my allergy note was boldly included in capital letters. The only redeeming item were the Pan Fried Buns stuffed with chicken. Unfortunately (1) order wasn't enough to split for 3 people. My daughter originally tried to pick out all the shrimp but told me not to eat it because they used Oyster Sauce. No Yongchow Fried Rice for me, unless they were trying to kill me. After reading thireview they just might. (Sarcasm). I ate 1/2 a Steamed Barbecue Pork Bun as my dinner. I will most definitely not be ordering from Garlic and Ginger again. I told Grub Hub to take it off of the "Must Try" menu. Grub Hub issued a $25 credit for my troubles. I really wanted to like this place after reading posts and reviews. Sadly, it was not to be.

    Steamed beef ball

I didn't get to try a lot of dishes so I may have to add an update on this in the future. There were some items on the menu that I really liked and others that I felt were not worth while. The BQQ pork bun comes in two forms (or at least I think that is the case) one with a normal bakery bread exterior and the other that comes with this nice crumbly crust. i had the latter. That was absolutely my favorite dish here. Its a nice spin on a classic dish. The texture of the crust is unique and I appreciate that a lot. The beef ball was ok... maybe felt small but ok for price. Shiao Long Bao was a nice size but lacked the soup element. The Look Fun felt overpriced for what it was. Mochi Rice in Lotus Leaf was delicious with the salted egg inside! Overall not bad. I would try again.

FRESH food, carts come around too, if you couldn't decide what you wanted, they'll show you. Service is really fast and they come around often, price is very very reasonable, Tons of seating and tables for larger parties . Restrooms are available. Come before or after 12pm... the lunch crowd is no joke!

    Chive and shrimp dim sum.

These two are my favorite! Every time I go to Oahu, I have to stop here in Chinatown. Got to bring my daughter here for the first time and she loves it too! Their shrimp and chive dim sum is the best!

Ordered take away from here and even with the wait, the food was amazing! The har gao had the right amount of shrimp to wrapper ratio and the flavor was fantastic! The siu mai was perfect! Nice and moist with the right amount of seasoning. Overall everything we ordered was awesome! Very worth it! If you're thinking of going here or ordering from here, don't hesitate!

We came here by Da Bus when we had an all-day pass. Chinatown in Hon was a spot for us to check out. We got hungry so this was my choice after checking Yelp out. Greeted upon entry. A few ladies making dim sum at a table. One nice lady sat us and got us menus and water. We ordered aroumd 7-8 dim sum dishes and 2 fish congees. All excellent. Congees were bangin'. We were one of only 3 tables dining but amazing how fast they got the orders out when it isn't one of those dim sum places with carts going around. Great service. Good people working there. We spent a reasonable price for all. A definite + in the Honolulu Chinatown area.

Online order is way more expensive than calling in or dining in. Am I mistaken?

No, you're correct. I'm pretty sure the food delivery services add a couple bucks to each item unfortunately.

Do they use MSG in their dim sum?

    Is this place wheelchair accessible?

Yes. Very easy access, and accommodating.

    Where can you park?

To my knowledge, there's a paid public parking lot across the street as well as street parking within a 2-3 minute walking distance. Just be careful as night since there are a lot of homeless people in the area.

Do they serve dimsum all day or just during the typical dimsum time?

FWIW - I agree with Andy in that one can get some of the simple dim sum (i.e. pre-made and ready to simply steam) dishes like har gow and sui mai outside of the lunch hours - we were able to do so. However, the chef is different for each cuisine… Read more

We had to order one of their sig crab dishes, and we rounded out the meal w/ beef and long beans, sweet & sour pork belly, eggplant and fried rice. The crab was amazing! The curry sauce was so deep & complex. In addition, the crab was fresh bc they have tanks in the restaurant. Of course I called dibs on the head, and it was packed with goodies. I added rice to the head (in Ilocano this is called "labay", adding rice to soup or broth to extend the meal). I was in heaven. The other dishes were all big portions and very good. The meat was tender, and the veggies were fresh and crunchy. I believe all the other dishes were ~ $20/each. The staff was super nice. We didn't have a res, but luckily we were seated in 20 min on a busy Sun night. Regarding the dining area, its tight but comfy. You have to wash your hands after, and the bathrooms are clean. We ordered pork hash, manapua, har gow, spring rolls, pickled cucumbers ($12.95) and a platter of char siu & duck. The dim sum was about $8/each, which I thought was very reasonable. My buddy really likes siao mai, and he said KSR has the best ones out of the places I have brought him to in HNL. On the other hand, the manapua was just okay: The ratio of meat to bao was low. I took char siu fr the platter and added it to the bao. We might have been better off skipping the baos and ordering a rice or noodle plate. The har gow and spring rolls were pretty good. The rolls arrived piping hot, and the har gow had a nice texture in the wrapper. Fourthly, the cucumber was fresh & crunchy, and had lots of garlic. I ate some with the char siu to cut thru the fat. Lastly, the char siu & duck platter was very good. They do a good job of putting some char on the bbq pork. The duck was tasty, but there were a couple of bony pieces. Regarding the ambiance, its big in here. Although they don't use carts, the aisles are wide. The servers were friendly & warm. I would def return for dim sum, but I also want to come for dinner.
