Still, it has some cute old buildings, and, as it turns out, a bloody fine tea shop. The Steyning Tea Rooms certainly look the part, with a very Cath Kidson-esque aesthetic. As well as being a tea room, there are also a few gifty bits on sale, like embroidered Matryoshka door stops, bird shaped pegs, and so on. What really makes it great though is the food. The menu is extensive, and reasonably priced. They obviously do a great selection of cakes and drinks, but with some more interesting additions than just the norm, for example, you can have a cream soda or a coke float to drink. We shared a tuna, cheese and sunblushed tomato melt, a rhubarb scone with cream and rhubarb jam, some Sicilian lemonade and a raspberry lemonade. The lemonade was wonderfully strong and traditional tasting, the melt was heavily loaded with the tasty toppings, and the rhubarb scone was the best of the lot, with lots of pieces of real rhubarb baked in, and a tangy jam to offset the cream and scone's sweetness. Those items together came to about £13. We were served by a not exactly effusive, but not unpleasant lady with long dreads, more what you would expect from a café in Brighton than this quaint Steyning tea room. Altogether it was a ruddy jolly show.

When my coffee was brought out, with it came a gorgeous slab of Victoria sponge, which he insisted that I could have for free, seeing as it was the end of the day! This is one of my favourite places to sip away on an ice coffee and people watch. I have also tried a cappuccino which was lovely along with a white chocolate and macadamia cookie yum yum! There is both indoor and outsoor seating and free wifi, which I have taken full advantage of(hence the review!) There's a large board with lots of tempting food options, which I will be no doubt be back to try! Annoyingly, since last month the council have decided to charge diners to park in the adjoining car park - it seems anywhere there's a whiff of a commercial outlet there they are, ratching up the taxes on parking. I do wonder sometimes why shops and restaurants let them get away with it, it must damage trade quite a lot. Anyway, given that you've got change for the parking and can afford the extra tax on your meal, inside the cafe you'll find it's quite plain - the decor is unimaginative but it's clean and the service is friendly. This is a great place to go for breakfast or lunch, with good old English breakfasts for veggies and meat eaters, jacket potatoes, sandwiches and so on. We had two large veggie breakfasts, complete with coffee and tea, for £14.00. The food was very good, and the portions generous (1 egg, veggie sausage, beans, tomatoes, mushrooms, slice of toast or fried bread, plus sauteed potatoes). A classy, romantic place for dinner it is not, but if you're looking for a clean café that does all-day breakfasts, you're in business. And the staff are very helpful and friendly. In fact, I left my handbag on the seat by mistake, and they very kindly kept it safe for me until I went back. Now that's honesty! The cafe is wheelchair friendly, on the ground floor. The adjoining toilet block is cleaned by Wettons on behalf of the local authority. It wasn't very clean and the soap dispenser was empty! But it was free to use, and situated on the ground floor so I think could be okay for disabled users. This is also a good place for dog owners. There is a seating area outside, and I spotted a large metal doggie bowl filled with clean water while I was there, so your beloved pooch will be able to have a fresh drink and feel welcome. Two tiny criticisms (which I feel almost guilty about after the staff's kindness with my bag, but I will anyway!): sometimes they clean the cafe with strong-smelling bleach while diners are still in there. This does nothing for the dining experience! In fairness they didn't last time and might have stopped doing it these days, but watch out if you're a straggler around mid-afternoon when they're cleaning, just in case! The other tiny whinge is: last time they had a notice saying that customers are not allowed in the seating area at the back of the cafe because it is closed. It would be far more polite simply to say "This section is closed - sorry". Overall though, a good place for breakfast or lunch at a reasonable price.

It does so well because the food is top notch as far as greasy spoons go and with on site, easy parking many people go here before a round of golf or before other activities. The service is always efficient and you are never left waiting long. The last time I went in there I met 3 people I knew which made me realise that it must be kept open by those well known locals who would rather drive an extra 5 minutes for quality rather than settle for mediocrity nearby.

Sadly in the morning once I woke up i didnt have an appetite but I still went to check it out. Since I didnt have an appetite I was deciding on whether I should grab tea or something sweet instead of plain coffee so I ordered myself a mocha which was very tasty. I didnt feel like eating anything so i ordered the breakfast smoothie so I can drink that while on the way to the airport. They didnt have wifi there but it was ok since I still had alot of data and had my kindle so that I can read a bit. The place is really roomy, enough tables and seats plus great decorations on the walls. Really wanted to try the sweet potato hash though but maybe another time if I ever come back to Brighton.
