You came in, paid them the money, and left. They were a little brusque and determined to get that money upfront, as if they're used to being stiffed (no pun intended). They're one of the cheapest cremation services in town (even cheaper if you arrange it in advance), and you get what you pay for. They didn't screw anything up, they just give you the very basic service and send you on your way. Everything else cost extra. Even putting the ashes in an urn you brought in costs $40 or something that I considered annoying. Any way they can upcharge, they will, but It's not like they're pushy. They're just not friendly or charming or even particularly sympathetic, and it can be kind of hard for some people who are suffering from a loss to deal with someone who seems... cold. Additionally, they screwed up when we made the appointment and forgot to tell us we had to bring in various documentation (and that if there are siblings, more than half of them have to fill out the same form agreeing to the cremation, not just one person, even if that person is the executor), so it was a bit of a hassle in the beginning and we had to come back. Again, it was fine but I personally would've rather paid a little bit more money for real service and compassion.

They took care of my daughters body, convinced me of how I needed to view her before hand (so I would have a final image that was peaceful as opposed to the image I had had prior) and even helped me choose an urn that was reflective to her love of butterflies. I have not taken care of my final arrangements yet, but when I do I will allow Gordon and Greg to help me with the details.

My mother was cremated, and everything was handled with dignity and professionalism. Their kindness and attention to detail did not go unnoticed. We are deeply grateful for their support and highly recommend Heritage Funeral Home and Cremation. They did a wonderful job.

Mom died in 2010 and everything worked out perfectly. Per-arranged funeral service saved a lot of angst. emotion and work, especially for the surviving spouse. We moved dad to the Charlotte area a number of years ago and he died a NC resident. I earlier contacted Heritage to find out how the California per-arranged funeral would work for dad, now living in NC. Karen Reardon called Community Mortuary in California and funeral home to funeral home worked things out. After dad's anointment by St. Matthew Catholic Church he was cremated by Heritage. Ashes could have been hand-carried to California, but we opted to have them shipped by FedEx. That was a good choice as dad's ashes were waiting for us when our family came out to California for the memorial services and en-urnment of the ashes. We only had to pay the shipping of the ashes. Heritage in Indian Trail was so very helpful. Nice people, they picked up dad at his assisted living facility and we came into the funeral home the next morning to find him neatly laid out in their chapel. He was clean and neatly groomed and that was very reassuring to my wife and me. We signed paperwork and they kept us informed throughout the process of ashes shipment and confirming arrangements with the California mortuary. They even placed short obituaries in the Charlotte area and in San Diego. Heritage made the whole experience easy and pleasant for all of us.

I do not know the details of the contract between them. My understanding was that my brother was to be cremated and there would be a procession driving from the funeral home to the cemetery where a U.S. Marine Corps Honor Guard was to be there to honor his remains, provide a 21 gun salute and Taps. The person driving the hearse with my brother exited the highway procession because he RAN OUT OF GAS!!!???? Half the people in the procession followed the hearse and the rest continued to the cemetery. RAN OUT OF GAS??? Really??? So, when we get to the cemetery, the administrator for the cemetery tells us the Marines are not there for the Honor Guard. WTF??? My brother retired from the Marines and requested a USMC funeral and deserved to have one. Come to find out, AE Grier never contacted the Marines to be present. The cemetery administrator there asked if I would accept an ARMY honor guard because they happened to be there for another funeral. I declined as ANY MARINE would. I too am a Marine Corps Veteran, and so is my other brother who was at the funeral. ANY Marine would have refused an ARMY send off. After we left the cemetery, we went back to the funeral home. I was very upset because like many other people at the cemetery, I was expecting my brother to have his USMC funeral because he EARNED that after 23 years in the Marines. A lot of us came from not just out of town, but from out of state for this. I CAN NEVER GET THAT MOMENT BACK THANKS TO AE GRIER AND THE INCOMPETENT HANDLING OF THIS MILITARY FUNERAL. I don't know if they refunded my nephews for the services they did NOT provide, but for me it's not about the money, it's about the memory of my brother's funeral as a big SCREW UP by AE Grier. The woman at the funeral home told me and I quote " We dropped the ball on this one." WOW!!!! Was that supposed to make me feel better???? Long story, but the point is, maybe look at other funeral homes. How would you feel with "We dropped the ball" on services for YOUR loved one? The Marines provided an Honor Guard service 2 weeks later for his sons and their mother, but No one there initially will have that memory.
