Friday 19 Dec 2008 de Tropix Monto Water Rats Theatre, Kings Cross
From the very first drumbeat you know it's going to be good.
It's a live gig with class (albeit some slanderous lyrics); polished sound and a professional act that goes with it; leaves you awestruck. Provocative Cherry does her act with purpose, while Instinct keeps a cool head and a firm grip on the reality of us.
It's that slow reggae beat, island-style yoi-yoi yo vocals, backing claps and clicks and even an eerie horn blowing. There's a fusion of background mixes that sound earthy and real, a foreground of psychedelic vocals drawing you in. It's like polished garage, shack music that's been perfected for a first world audience, if I may say so.
