I figured the Elite status would give me some street cred, but I guess not. I have really used Germany Service to get a lot of docs. Getting docs from Germany is not like getting docs from San Diego or Los Angeles County. I needed more information to get the docs, and getting the docs took a lot longer than I expected (some taking over a month to get). The shipping speeds are either a couple days or literally a month+ (talk about go big or go home shipping options). The hard part for me was locations and dates. Not all of the documents have multilingual forms. Some of the docs were written in old school German calligraphy (while cool looking they are really hard to read). Edeltraud also helped translate some of the harder to read calligraphy so I could get the next date/location for the next doc I needed to order. And now the original review: My father is German, but due to deaths in the family (and other issues) I know very little about him and his family. With very little information to go on I figured getting any documents would require a private investigator...I thought this was a hopeless cause. After a few Google searches I found germany-service.com I started with my father's birthday and a complete guess on birthplace, and I was able to find an obituary for my grandfather in an old photo album. My guess about my father's birthplace turned out to be correct. My grandfather's death certificate also was super helpful (it included information on his birthday/birth location, and it also included the date/location of his wedding). I was then able to request his birth certificate and their marriage certificate. The marriage certificate was also super helpful because it included my grandmother's birthday and birthplace.
