Standing in a field for three and a half days is pretty boring, however throw in around 100 Metal…read morebands and field standing turns into the best thing you can do in the middle of August in Derbyshire. This was my 4th Bloodstock in a row,and it keeps getting better and better. One of the main draws for me is it's size,it's not stupidly big like the Downloads and Glastos of this world, this years attendance was 11000,and whilst this means they will never be able to afford the Iron Maidens and Metallica's they still sign up some decent headliners,Alice Cooper and Machine Head being 2 of the 3 headliners this year. Expect to pay the usual festival prices for things,or take your own food and booze and pop back to your tent in between bands, the size of the fest means that you are never more than 5 mins away from where you pitched. There are plenty of diverse food stalls and a decent amount of merch to buy, there are four stages, all within staggering distance of each other, and most importantly Me! If you are already a MetalHead then you may have already been to Bloodstock (Gold star for you) but if you are yet to attend a Metal fest then may I suggest you give Bloodstock a try next year? £125 for 100+ bands is money well spent, and the mighty Anthrax have already been announced for 2013! Bang your f*****g head \M/

Had a really good time at this rock/metal festival. My friend had raved about it for years so I…read morethought I'd give it a go-for one day anyway! I only knew a few of the bands but the good weather and company made up for it. I would call it a micro-Download. In comparison the site is tiny, but this makes it feel more safe and friendly and obviously much easier to get around. £70 was a lot to pay for a day ticket, plus there's £20 in parking which I think is cheeky! Also they don't take cards like at download which was annoying. I would go back if lots of bands I knew were playing/had plenty of money/guarantee of good weather! I know my friend will go back regardless!;)

Stockport Beer & Cider Festival

There was no need to buy tickets in advance, you could rock up there on the day. One thing we found very annoying was that after £5 for entry and £2 for a glass you had to pay again for a programme (which we refused to). Come on CAMRA, this should have been included. The many, many alphabetised cask beers and ciders were lined up down either side of the entry corridor. If you're a cider fan than this festival is definitely for you, I've never seen so many. As you could expect this area of the venue was extremely busy, bordering on claustrophobic, so once you've been served head to the far end which leads you down to the outside terraces. They open The Cheadle End stand so you can sit and look out over the hallowed ground of Edgeley Park whilst supping your amber nectar. If you'd prefer a proper sit down, head through to Bar Nouveau which features a range of brand new beers that are making their debut at the festival. The large banqueting suite has lots of table seating, a small stage and a dance floor (which towards the end of the night starts to resemble an office Christmas party...). Overall a thoroughly enjoyable event, not only due to the sheer range on offer but also the friendly volunteers and great atmosphere. Definitely one for your calendar.

The event was set up by Ron Hill in 1998, who took inspiration from the first Harborne charity fete in 1891, a carnival that had been revived several times, with the last in 1968. Last year's street party saw over 60000 attending what is often called the UK's second largest celebrations of its type. With the sun blaring, it was an absolutely perfect day out for friends and family alike. Taking to the streets are a wide range of floats and people, from dancers to old fashioned cars to bikes to brass bands, if you don't keep an eye on the road, you're sure to miss some of the most intriguing, artistic floats you'll ever see. Along with floats, the streets are also filled with fairground rides activities, and stalls which are all designed to raise money for local charities. The carnival is a hit with the kids, and the surrounding Harborne pubs are perfectly located for fueling the adults with alcohol to help them soak up the atmosphere. The smell of local grub sold on the street is also highly tempting, so be prepared to enjoy a jam packed, belly bursting event. My first experience of the carnival was last year, and I cannot wait for this years! Not long to go!

The infamous high street is packed, whether it be floats or just people, it's seemingly one way traffic, but in all fairness, it's something that adds to the atmosphere if anything. Despite being a great day out, weather depending, you'll see your fair share of topless men/boys and drinking on the streets. With the pubs often closing for a few hours in the mid afternoon, people often take drinking outside, making the most of the Sainsburys towards the end of the street. Some people may find the off putting, but as my rating suggests, the day, overall, really is a laugh. I'd definitely recommend it, especially to anyone in their late teens, pushing 20. After all, it could fall on my birthday again, in which case you can buy me a pint..
