Dr. Chang appeared to be a very nice guy and I am sure a good dentist. I regret that I will never have the chance to find out because he wants to work a 4 day work week and have nothing setup to cover any type of emergency. I had lost my crown that was going to be resolved by another dentist next Wednesday. Problem is the crown could not wait and it came off late Thursday night. If I wanted to pay all as out of pocket $$$ only to have another dentist charge my insurance on Wednesday and my out of pocket was still 900$ then was clearly double dipping or Dr. Chang never inspected what is expected. In finally getting him on the phone he admitted that he really never checked the process because I was a new patient and he really never has had any patients with emergencies in his very new practice. So if your looking for a dentist that has a great chair side manner 4 days a week and you NEVER have a dental emergency he is your guy hands down. What happened to taking care of your patients in a practice. Cross your fingers out there. Perhaps a wolf in sheep's clothing. Don't know. read more

Excellent dentist, I've been moving around southern California a lot the past few years and hadn't been to a dentist in over 2 years. Gerald Chang and his staff were incredibly friendly and informative and got me back on track. I did not feel like anyone was taking any shortcuts, and that they all took pride in their job. Dr Chang was also the only dentist I've had to address a clicking noise I have in my jaw, its been a phobia of mine since I was a kid(after randomly reading some article about Jenny Craig's jaw practically falling off after a nap) and if it were to become a serious issue I feel confident he and whoever he'd refer me to could take care of it. Dr. Chang received many positive reviews, so I made an appointment to have a crown replaced. All went exceptionally well. I am always hesitant getting X-rays (I think they're used too much) and my prior dentist for decades never insisted on them but Dr. Chang was adamant he'd need full mouth x-rays in order to be my dentist since I was a new patient--I understood the issue and everything proceeded quite well. I would like to give this practice the usual five stars that I have experienced for the past several years. However during this pandemic this practice needs to make sure the patient is properly protected against contracting COVID-19. I have type 1 diabetes a high risk factor for significant problems should I contract covid-19. This is noted in my chart. have been extremely careful not to put myself at risk. Sadly this practice put me at risk. The hygienist who treated me yesterday wore only a flimsy disposable mask. She got right up close to my mouth and was talking though her mask directly into my mouth when she placed x-ray film. Of course I had to remove my mask. I wasn't asked if I wanted to have xRays done. Had I known the risk I would have refused. I am aware hat other another hygienist in this practice wore two masks when treating another patient who I know personally. Why isn't this precaution taken consistently with all patients. When I spoke to the office manager Andrea today I tried to tell her not to get defensive about my experience. But of course she did. Sadly the dentist did not see me yesterday which he usually does to check teeth and the x-rays. The entire experience yesterday was sub-par. Now I have to wait two weeks and hope I don't contract covid. If I do I will know exactly where and when. This practice needs to protect the patients consistently. This review prompted a call from the dentist. He asked if I was sure all the hygienist had on was a single disposable mask. Of course I'm sure! I don't have the motive to lie. He said he was shocked. But he wasn't there to observe the hygienist and he admitted he was out of the office. He said in the month they have been back I am the only patient to complain. Irrelevant. My experience is my experience. He was pointing out the measures he is taking to protect his staff. I am a high risk patient. He said they treat all patients as high risk. This did not happen for me. I have a extreme history of trauma at the dentist. Needless to say the anxiety that I experience at most dentists is real. I have known that I needed a crown for some time now. Covid gave me a great excuse to delay this procedure. The day had come and it was time to deal with it. I had consultations with a few dentists and had made a decision to go to Dr. Chang. Dr. Chang has been my dentist for a while, but only for exams and cleanings. I was trying to avoid or delay any major work, like a crown. Today I finally bit the bullet and went to Dr, Chang for a crown. My experience was one of the best I have ever experienced. I had myself worked up and expected to have a lot of pain and discomfort. Krazy as it sounds, I had next to none. The only thing I felt was the pinch of the needle for the novocaine. I was expecting to be sore from having my mouth open so long, my jaw is not sore and I am a bit stunned as to how easy this procedure was with Dr, Chang. His staff was very inviting and his office is spotless. Had my first check up and cleaning today and was really impressed. The staff was incredibly friendly yet didn't cross that line of being too friendly, (from a New Yorker's perspective at least). Both Dr Chang and the hygienist seemed really efficient, knowledgeable, and friendly. Nobody tried to up-sell me aggressively like I have experienced in the past.
