Pertinent to my review, what are these things?! They were in the stacks!

It gets the job done! Nice people, nice books. Not a huge fan of how it looks from the outside. I study in here a lot and I am productive. But, one time I found these sock-like things? It's in the picture. You be the judge. I think you'll like it here. In fact, I guarantee it. -Sean

If you're a smaller person or look less able to defend yourself, you might not feel safe hanging out in here. Also, if you're smell sensitive, forget it. I really don't mean to sound callous, but a public library is supposed to be for everyone. At times for this library there's really only one kind of community member that seems to feel comfortable hanging around. I don't think this is an acceptable state of things when our tax dollars fund public libraries. I wouldn't take kids here either. I strongly urge the leadership to do something about this problem that many people have now noted. The public library isn't a homeless shelter. Allowing it to turn into one will not fix the systemic issues that lead to homelessness and a lack of shelter space. It simply prevents others from using this public resource as intended. If y'all can call security on a Black teenager that was trying to study in the Children's section and bothering no one, surely you can call security to remove disruptive homeless people.

The famous ceiling is every bit as impressive as the photos, and it's worth taking your time to admire the architecture. Be sure to check out the rotating exhibits as well. I thought the two Georges were well done. Also enjoyed seeing actual books from Jefferson's library. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and happy to answer questions. If you're visiting Washington, DC, this is definitely a place I'd recommend, especially if you're already exploring Capitol Hill. It's an easy walk to Navy Yard if you're planning to spend time there afterward.

This is a brilliant date night or a fantastic group activity. You can eat or drink. You can explore a rotating exhibit, the gift shop, and Jefferson's bookshelf. Do know you need to reserve a spot online in advance to get your free tickets, but it's super easy to do on their website. They offer other free events that are worth exploring too!

Since I've only attended in the evenings prior to shows the exhibits are open and extensive. I definitely need to visit during the day which admission is free. There is a gift shop as well as interactive exhibits all about Shakespeare and his works. The theater is on the second floor as well as the beautiful cafe. You can order drinks that can be taken into the theater but food cannot. The theater is a traditional Elizabethan theater -with only one way in for bottom rows (so if you have an interior seats the entire row will need to stand for you get out) but otherwise I love the intimacy of the theater space and every shown I've seen there is phenomenal. The latest How Shakespeare Saved My Life was amazing and I would highly recommend seeing it before it ends. There is an elevator as well as very clean restrooms on the first and second floors. $$ There is paid street parking

I'm not clear if there is a cost associated with that, because I haven't yet tried to reserve a space. It's also more quiet on the second level compared with the first level which is geared more towards children. The Cons: The library is small, and I could not find a desk when I got there. I've been to two other libraries in the city which provide significantly more space. With no available empty table, I sat at a computer work station desk and tried to navigate space for my laptop.

Although some are critical of the vibe here, I cannot say I have found, on three visits, that is inferior to others in the system, or even discernibly different. I tend to select my retreat based on location, whatever is convenient to the last meeting or the next meeting. I would not criticize this venue. The city must have started a giant renovation project. So many of the branches have bright, well designed, tasteful furnished renovations. It does get a bit hot here. On the scale of concerns, with looming catastrophe from climate change, that hardly ranks as more than a quibble.

The couple most closely associated with this Georgetown estate, Mildred and Robert Bliss, clearly loved and thought deeply about this parcel of land when they owned it (1920/30's). There's a lot of research that's supported here, as well as other activities. The website explains all that. It's a low-key sightseeing spot; quiet, contemplative.

There were also several large sculptures that originated from the Byzantium empire which is known as Istanbul today. According to their information, the museum is continuously acquiring different works if art from this time period. There were also some pretty cool grave markers dating back to the 11th century. The museum is sort of hidden off of the main avenue in Georgetown so you will probably need to search for it. It is also free and open most days to the general public.
