(WASHINGTON PLACE APARTMENTS in Clinton Township)Important Notice: Think Twice Before Moving…read moreHere!!! My mom and daughter took the leap and applied here, paying 2 months of rent upfront, which encompassed cleaning fee and utility charge, amounting to roughly $2900. We're now a 2 weeks in, and this place has fallen short of resolving the issue. They haven't spent a single night in this infested property, and change is overdue. See below: 16590 Washington Square --Unit H Washington Place Apartments Clinton Township, MI 5/8/2026 Management Office Washington Place Apartments Clinton Township, MI Subject: Formal Complaint and Demand for Lease Termination Due to Severe Habitability Issues as a New Resident Dear Property Manager, I am writing to formally lodge a serious complaint regarding the unacceptable living conditions in my new leased apartment at Washington Place Apartments. Since taking possession of the unit on 5/1 and upon moving into the unit in the evening of 5/2, we started noticing roaches coming out of the sink and cabinetry areas that weren't noticed during the initial and brief walk-thru (upon request there is video). It is apparent that I had to stop moving my things into the unit due to this infestation. As an elderly woman with health challenges of my own, I am unable to continue and forced to live between family and hotels. This move has greatly affected my health, safety, and overall quality of life. The presence of roaches is not limited to isolated areas but is pervasive throughout the apartment, indicating a broader building-wide issue rather than a unit-specific concern. As a new tenant, I am entitled to a habitable living environment and the right to quiet enjoyment of my home. Unfortunately, these rights have been severely violated. This situation has also created a deeply personal hardship. My new resident (home) is intended to be a place of comfort and security; however, due to the infestation, it is unlivable! I am unable to safely have my great-grandchild over who's accustomed to seeing me watching her 3x a week, as she is severely disabled and particularly vulnerable due to her tendency to place objects in her mouth. This is an unacceptable risk that no tenant should be forced to endure. While I understand that pest control measures such as fumigation may be attempted, I do not believe that treating my individual unit alone will resolve the problem. The severity and extent of the infestation strongly suggest that comprehensive, repeated treatment of the entire building is required to effectively eliminate this issue. Given these conditions, I am formally requesting that my lease agreement be declared NULL and VOID, with a FULL REFUND without any further financial obligation or penalties. The apartment, as provided, fails to meet basic standards of habitability, and I should not be held responsible for conditions beyond my control. I request a written response within a reasonable timeframe (3 days) on this matter. If necessary, I am prepared to pursue further action through appropriate housing authorities to protect my rights as a tenant. See Dittrich W. Facebook for pics and video.
