Tuna Tartare Curry Aburi, Pickled Shimeji

Solid menu that doesn't change the classics Atmosphere: The restaurant has a dark and cozy atmosphere, albeit for a fine dining establishment with white tablecloths. The dining area is scattered with smaller tables and booths on the edges, with an open kitchen at the heart of the restaurant where the team is hard at work. Food: The Winterlicious menu is filled with classic dishes for the restaurant. The tuna tartare was very fresh and almost felt like a salad with the citrus and microgreens and slaw, with a nice kick from the mustard and quinoa, and crispiness from the tuiles. The tenderloin was cooked to a perfect medium rare, although my partner's was a touch closer to rare as it was a thicker cut. The sauces and tomato and rapini helped bring everything together with some tartness and bitterness, to the tender and rich beef. The pavlova was a good finish to the meal, with the sweet meringue and the coconut cream on top with some papaya and citrus on the side. Service: The service was on the slower side, taking about 2 hours for a three-course menu and bread. As dish was brought out, the food was explained but it seemed like they were different servers (that seemed to be in training/fairly new, as they had the item mixed up for a neighbouring table) for each course and our main server seemed impatient at the end of the meal for some reason. Dinner was fantastic with a variety of dishes and techniques used for each dish.

We went for the Winterlicious and it was a great experience. Obviously it was a bit busy due to this being a very good restaurant selection on the Toronto Winterlicous choice. The food was very tasty and presentation was excellent. I will let my pictures do the talking! Nothing was a letdown. And we even found the portions decent. I would recon the wine pairing since we found it relatively generous and the choices were in fact good! The wine server was quite knowledgeable too! We will come back to try other stuff on the regular menu next time!

I love the ethos of this place. My experience was unfortunately poor. The male host in the white shirt was so curt with us from the moment he came to our table. He sets the mood. It's interesting that every single person in a black dress shirt male or female were not this way. Although we must admit we felt they wanted to get rid of our table right away. Yet empty tables were everywhere. In our experience at other Michelin spots - this was never the feeling we experienced. This was not a great first impression. So then the food. On the higher end of the of summerlicious. It was underwhelming.

I came here for Winterlicious and It restored my faith in Michelin stars restaurant. I've been to other Michelin star restaurant but GEORGE Restaurant is top notch and more than 5 stars. I don't need to describe each food, service and ambience coz for me. I am 100% satisfied, full, and happy customer.

We went here for a 10 course vegetarian tasting and were blown away by all the plates that were presented to us. The plating was incredible, the food was fresh, the flavors were interesting. The ambiance of this place was beautiful, low lighting inside, reallt nice table settings. Their patio was open too. The server was super nice and did warn us that 10 courses would be a lot of good and we thought we could do it, but honestly it was TOO much haha. I'd recommend the 7 course option. Within the 10 course, we got 6 apps, 1 main, 1 cheese, 2 desserts. We also got the basket of bread and butter with it. Soooo good. Sadly my partner got instant food poisoning (after confirming with his doctor later) after the 5th course. So our server was kind enough to shorten our service to stop with only 1 dessert after the main. The dishes were so unique and interesting, vegetables consisting of tofu (for the mains), avocado, artichoke, beans, snap peas, cauliflower, mushroom and some tremendous sauces. Would've visited this place again if my partner didn't get food poisoning sadly

It's been almost five years since last time I tried this restaurant and had the impression that the cooking here was quite old-school style and solid. We decided to try it again for my birthday. The food here was so good. The four of us (including one toddler) ordered a few items to share from their a la carte menu. They also offered tasting menu options at this restaurant with 5, 7, 10 courses at different prices. We ordered a basket of bread (with a few varieties) for sharing before appetizers were served. It was gone so quickly. My boy ate so much. They also provided each of us a spoon of tasteful vegetable. Now the food we ordered: - Wagyu was sooooo yummy. Very soft and tender. Melted in my mouth immediately. - Tuna tartare: I could hardly figure out it was tuna tartare by just looking at the dish. The tuna was wrapped in a layer of crispy filling, which looked more like a crab cake. It was so perfectly flavoured. A dish full of creativity and surprise. - Scallop: topped with some leafy vegetable salad. Yummy as usual. - Gnocchi and halibut were good too, although not the best I've ever had. - Beef ribeye: impressive dish again. They have really good cut for the beef here. - Cow's Cheese platter with pears: I can never say no to cheese, especially when they were paired with refreshing pears. - Chocolate Basque cake: Good but not wowing. Overall, there was no dish that was not good here. The most impressive dishes were the beef, the tuna tartare and the wagyu. The service was okay too but not meeting Michelin standard yet. Maybe that's why they didn't get one star, but I'll give them one if I can! I can imagine this restaurant to be my top recommendation place for special event.

George is a great place for someone who is interested in a tasting menu. I came with my fiancée to celebrate our anniversary and we were both very impressed by the dishes. You have the option to choose how many courses you want. We each had different items as the courses came out. It was great we were able to taste so many dishes. The flavours, presentation and service were amazing. The restaurant is bigger and louder than expected. Happy we got to try George, I would highly recommend coming and will come back again!

I visited here for our anniversary dinner in June, and it's been a pleasurable experience. We had the Chef's special tasting menu of 5-courses, which I find a better value than ordering a la carte. However, your whole party has to choose it. It's more of a surprise and delight because you will not know what you'll get each course until it's served. We were a little hesitant at first but do not regret it one bit at the end. The fun part is that you and your partner would get something different, so you can taste 10 different plates as a party of 2 for around $400~ including tax and tip (including a glass of wine, bread)! The menu rotates weekly and there a la carte options as well, the selection is not huge on their menu but each dish was tasty. You can tell the server what you don't want. For us is no rabbit, and they ensured we wouldn't have that in our courses. It shows the talent of the Chef in adapting to our preferences. Atmosphere is rustic and romantic with dim lights and there's even an outdoor courtyard you can dine at during the summer. I've been here multiple times for corporate functions, weddings, and now a personal dinner. I'm currently in the process of planning an intimate celebration at George soon so hope it goes well too!

Lovely anniversary dinner. Fresh and creative ingredients. 7 course were explained well but too bad I couldn't do it justice by retaining all the dish details. Attentive waiter that spaced out the meal. We left stuffed ! They accommodate all dietary restrictions and did an excellent job of showcasing a range of savoury dishes. Would recommend for all special occasions. We enjoyed watching the kitchen staff put together fancy plates from our table. It's white table cloth setting yet relaxed and not overly pretentious. A few plates were not very inspiring (see the dessert and amuse Bouche photos) but the rest were quite tasty. Very rich sauces. Enjoyed our experience and overall would recommend.

We wanted to start this year's patio season with a bang, so we chose George. The patio was out of this world with a sunken garden section. Lots of room. The last time I was blown away by a patio setting was at a restaurant patio in Hong Kong's the Peak. We chose to do a 7 course chef's tasting menu (times 2). The server told us that each dish would be different. So, the appertizers were phenomenal. For the main, all the proteins were perfectly cooked. The only thing that I wasn't thrilled about from this tasting experience was the repetitiveness of some items such as the Foie gras, asparagus, and sauces. Desserts were yummy. The presentations of each plate were artistic. And the service was on point. Most of all, the patio wowed me.

George is a Toronto icon and gold standard for marking any type of special occasion, or if you are well-heeled, it's simply a great vibe and dinner spot downtown. Since I was celebrating a milestone and on top of that always wanting to try George for myself, it was a natural choice for an epic night out. We dressed formally which I found added to the atmosphere and made the evening feel even more memorable and special. The menus consist of the dinner choices which are either à la carte or chef's tasting of 5, 7 or 10 courses, then there is a cocktail menu, and as well a wine menu. We noticed that other tables had a sommelier assist in their wine options, and we were left wondering where the choice was to have that service added to the experience as our server didn't mention it. The restaurant was full booked with no empty tables and plenty of staff running around trying their best to keep up. They did a great job of keeping us happy and without any real distractions allowing us to enjoy the experience and each others company. The 5-course dinner and drinks were brought out at a nice pace with only an occasional lull over the entire time we ate. The table was booked for 8 pm on a Saturday, and I had also booked at a lounge for after dinner thinking 10:30 pm but we didn't make it until almost midnight so keep that in mind for planning your evening. The 5 courses were a perfect way to experience George. The variety was good and the amount of food was perfect. It didn't occur to us that the 7 courses would have been any advantage. Presentation was beautiful, and it felt nice having each course include an appropriate table setting. This was all done without us being distracted and having to break and lose focus on the conversation. That alone made our evening at George memorable and well appreciated. The description of each course from our server was difficult to understand as it was spoken too quickly, included a fair number of words to parse (each person gets different items), and of course the mask didn't help. It would have been better if they had the items written down to help us appreciate the ingredients better. We had a couple cocktails each which were very good! Careful as these full size cocktails can be very strong and the first one I had went straight to my head. Also keep in mind the restaurant is fairly large and thus had some moments with a chilly breeze where we sat, likely from the door opening. Overall George was a fantastic experience and made me super happy with my choice for a memorable occasion evening out.

George is tucked away; the inconspicuous door leads to quite a spacious and upscale restaurant. Here, you have the option of going by the 5- or 7-course tasting menu, which lasts approximately 3 or 5 hours respectively. We chose to "chart our own adventure" and proceed with selecting our own three courses from the main menu. They offer a vegetarian menu as well, but nothing there stood out to or attracted me. Amuse bouche The servers went around the table to serve alternating plates of amuse bouche. I got the artichoke flan, which was quite gelatinous. Though it had an aesthetic presentation, the flavours didn't leave much of an impression on me. Fogo Crab Many of us chose this as our first course. The diced crab was dressed in crab salad form, topped with a crispy lattice cracker, with cut cauliflower pieces on top. The crab was good! It was light and tasty. Yellow Fin Tuna This was definitely one of my more favourite dishes! The lightly seared tuna is wrapped in cucumber threads and soaks up the soy sauce. A colleague of mine said it reminded him of dim sum. It was a great dish with lots of flavour and depth; there was also an assortment of diced vegetables on the side. What intrigued me was this small bite that was not unlike a marshmallow in taste and texture - super familiar, but I couldn't place my finger on it! Venison I initially wanted the halibut, but the server suggested the venison when I asked... and you can't ever not take the recommendation after asking! Unfortunately, I do believe that this was an instance where I may have preferred the halibut. The venison was heavy and meaty, but didn't particularly stand out in taste or flavour. Served with potato pierogies, the dish felt heavier than expected. I wasn't satisfied by this dish, particularly after looking at my colleagues' buttery and flaky halibuts! Lemon tart We then moved to dessert... as captivated as I was by the gelato choices, I opted for the lemon tart. It was a quite good! Topped with a dollop of meringue, a quenelle of coconut cream, and adorned with black sesame crisps and sponge-like wafers, this was a bougie lemon tart indeed. I do, however, wish it were more than just sweet - some tangyness and sourness from the lemon would have definitely helped cut the richness from the sugar and coconut cream. I then ended my meal with a small pot of "steamy sencha". The meal definitely had some highlights, but the dishes I chose (primarily the venison) simply weren't up to what I was expecting, particularly at that price point. Nevertheless, George delivers on ambiance and is a great place for anniversary dates and business dinners!

The Strawberry Tetsu tasted like a dessert and was delicious, with a graham cracker crumble rim. The Cloudy Oolong had a strong tea taste which I loved, as sometimes the tea can get lost in a cocktail. The foam on top was addicting and paired nicely with it, similar to a bubble tea. The cocktail menu leans heavily into Asian-inspired flavors, and that is what makes it stand out. Every drink feels thoughtfully developed rather than relying on presentation alone. We tried the Cloudy Oolong, which was especially memorable with its rich tea flavor and creamy cheese foam that added a savory depth to the cocktail. On a Valentine's Day brunch visit, the atmosphere alone was enough to justify the reservation. The kitchen demonstrates genuine competence: dishes arrive with care, the pacing is unhurried, and the mise en scène -- from tableside presentation to that now-famous thirteen-layer chocolate cake -- reveals an establishment that understands the theatre of fine dining. That towering slice of chocolate cake, in particular, is a masterstroke of marketing and pastry craft in equal measure; it draws the eye, earns its reputation, and very nearly steals the show. Where LOUIX LOUIS gives one pause is in the cuisine's ability to fully match its surroundings. The cooking is accomplished and reliably pleasant, yet seldom rises to the level of genuine distinction one might hope for at this price point. Dishes satisfy without surprising; technique is evident but inspiration, at moments, feels held in reserve. For the corporate traveller or the visitor seeking a polished, geographically convenient showcase of the city's skyline, this represents an entirely sound choice. For those seeking an experience whose flavours linger as long as the view, the kitchen has room yet to grow into its magnificent stage. Service is attentive and well-intentioned, though it can occasionally want for the depth of knowledge that elevates a good meal into a memorable one. LOUIX LOUIS is, in sum, a very good restaurant striving -- not quite yet arriving -- at greatness. The bones are exceptional; one hopes the culinary vision will, in time, catch up with them.
