TJ has three amazing qualities: the curriculum, the students, and the teachers! A school unlike any other. "Incredibly damaged" is not the correct term. TJ takes in students who have often been bullied or harassed at other schools, simply because they're different. However, everyone is accepted and embraced at TJ for all of their differences.

Electives (pretty much) do not exist here. Psychology? Nope. Chinese? Nope. 3. Second-language class choices are ridiculous. Greek, Latin, Italian, and French. Fancy? Yes. Useful for real life? No, not really. There is a reason why most private schools have Spanish and Chinese, because they are relevant to many students. 4. Art classes are held bi-weekly. Most other private schools have them daily. Then for the little things. 5. You are required to attend all meals. A teacher will check you in, because you are a five-year-old who cannot regular their eating habits by themselves. 6. If you receive enough demerits, you will be forced to work hours on Saturday morning. What? Child labor is illegal. Not if you're a private school. 7. The school bus can be up to two hour late on field trips. And much more!

The teachers are most likely paid half of what they should and put an amazing amount of effort into creating non-traditional curriculum that excites the kids. My 3rd grader is going on over 30 field trips this year and he has been on an over night camping trip that changed his life. He is learning so much and doesn't feel like he's on the receiving end of any academic pressure. The teachers are literally education ninjas. Will and Matt we love you so much!! Great facilities and equipment including outdoor gear and a second campus at the LaBarque conservation area. The adventure education experiences give students an unmatched sense of accomplishment in overcoming challenges of the outdoor, "real world" classroom. This prepared my kids to be leaders and face future challenges, both in education and in life, in a way that is just not possible with only teaching in the classroom.
