George is, for me, a compromise station. While it's not my favourite (95bFM, for the record), it's a damn sight better than commercial radio, and it occupies a spot between the two extremes that in some ways combines the better aspects of both.
95bFM plays better music, in my opinion, and with more variety. But sometimes that comes back to bite you when they play a 20 minute feedback solo followed by some laborious, amateur hip-hop. George is far more reliable and consistent, but without falling into the mainstream same-four-songs-every-hour routine. Also, George's ads aren't as funny as bFM's, but they're far less irritating than the ones on the other stations (which are so, so bad). Plus George does its own news and stuff rather than relying on the generic syndicated ones.
Overall, this is a good station, better than most of the crap on the airwaves, and if it didn't lean so heavily towards the dance/electronic side of things I'd listen to it a lot more. But that's just a personal preference thing. read more
