Trying to get orthodontia done here was a nightmare. I tried for 6 months to get treatment started for my daughter. The person with the right expertise was never present and we repeatedly had to make another appointment, weeks out, to talk to someone who knew what to do with my daughter's teeth. She needed surgery so a tooth could be pulled into place. The surgeon they finally sent us gave us totally incorrect information when we met him, then called later saying she'd actually need to go under general anesthesia adding an extra $5000 to our bill. We wasted 6 months, about $450, and several afternoons before getting completely fed up, cutting our losses, and moving on. They COULD have told us that they only offered basic tooth straightening and that they were not capable of handling more complex orthodontia, instead they strung us along for months. Please note this review is concerning the Gentle Dental Lambton branch. Until August I had been a GD customer for 7 years and had previously gone to their Dixon Street branch, where I received nothing but the highest standard of service and care. Anyhow... I went to the hygienist at the Gentle Dental Lambton practise and the pressure she put on my teeth was enough to knock out a filling. The pain was indescribable. Gentle Dental would not take ownership of their error or accept any liability whatsoever. Obviously the term "You broke it so you fix it" does not apply to this practise. The excuse was that they hadn't placed the filling in the first place so they were not responsible for fixing it. Good faith, over 7 years of patronage, ethics, basic customer service standards...all out the window at Gentle Dental Lambton. My blood boils whenever I think of what Gentle Dental did to me and how cavalier the dentist there was about the fact that his hygienist had knocked out a filling - yet it was up to ME to PAY to fix it? Not all of us are personal ATMs - dental care comes at a crippling cost to many Kiwis, myself included. I couldn't pull the $280 odd he quoted out of thin air to fix an issue I did not cause. I had been going to Gentle Dental for approximately 7 years, but needless to say I will never set foot in Gentle Dental again, and I've certainly been spreading the word about what they did. The outcome of it all? I went to another dentist who had to EXTRACT the tooth because it had become infected. Not a happy camper at all. read more

Excellent service, explained everything well, delt with my toothache. After an easy surgery, my pain is gone and for little cost.

Overpriced for (really) shoddy work. Got four 'side' fillings to cover receding gums, within 18 months one has resulted in a root canal and crown since it leaked and infected the tooth. Another fell out. 50% failure rate within two years, great! read more
