Unfortunately, my barber was still working on his prior appointment. No problem as the offered me a cold drink from the fridge. The had Mordelo beer or Diet Cokes. I had a Diet Coke. We made a little small talk while each barber's workspace had their tv's playing. But for example, he's been cutting hair for about 8 years and had two kiddos. Not from Tucson but says it's growing on him. My favorite part comes at the end. You get a wet razor around the ears, a hot towel and a short shoulder massage that helps you relax! I've been going to Gene's for 6 years and have always been very pleased with the atmosphere and quality job they do as well as its a fun place to get a cut. Brian has been my barber for close to 3 years and is the first and only person I have trusted to shave me with a straight razor. The shop is fun and laid back and everyone is always friendly and happy to see you. It's a great shop and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a good reasonable priced cut. read more

Can't find a more reasonably priced cut in town. Always fun to talk sports and Wildcats with Brian while getting a $12 haircut. After trying a few barbers in town before moving, Gene's is definitely the best. read more

You are not going to get any trendy fades or other styles. Just a good, regular haircut. No smell of pot, loud music, or TV screens. What he does have is vintage stuff, like a 1930's Wurlitzer juke box that still plays 78 rpms. Or one of the first electric cigarette dispenser machines. Or a Coke vending machine when a bottle was only 10 cents. Walk-ins only. 5* = A top favorite. Mind-blowing good. I will definitely return and I will go out of my way to go here. Worth every dime of my money. 4* = Outstanding. Tucson-top-tier. Some elements not quite as good as it gets, but it still is worthy of my regular business. 3* = Good experience. The current environment is not conducive to a bunch of men, women and families sitting close together and gripping their number. This place removes that stress but also with an awesome guy at the helm of looking dapper again. Haircuts can be easily reserved online. After I locked an appointment (yes that was new to me for a barber, but fast and painless), I was exactly on time and Jimmy was ready when I entered. To underline being prompt, as I was leaving another gent was coming in for his cut and with a sweep of the floor he had no wait as well. I went in with inches of curls distracted by an unruly beard, but left feeling clean and fresh. A 2 tapered to a 7 was the ask and instead of just buzzing away Jimmy listened to the intent of what I wanted done and delivered. He was willing to make any correction but his tact of not just buzzing was refreshing. For 22 dollars total he also lined up my beard and shaped it how I asked. Well worth the money. Small shop and very comfortable. I am not one to talk at a barber but honestly Jimmy and I chatted the whole time and I felt like I made a new friendly connection.
