I am with Gene over 20 yrs. He is the most honest and most reasonable mechanic in entire So OC per my opinion. I had couple other places before Gene. Bcoz I am a female customer and I felt like they all talked me into do so many works on my cars. But not Gene. He will explain you what causes the problems, what needs to be done, what will be the cost. He will call you if we have extra works need to be included since you won't know until you open up the car. And when I asked to do something I learned online, and he simply tells me 'not need' or 'not need until what miles' kind of conversation we always have. I trust him fully. I've been going to Gene's Auto Repair for about 10 years or so and have always found him to be honest, fair, personable, and helpful. I remember once, I took my car in for servicing and after checking, he told me not to do it yet because the car didn't need the oil change. Whenever I go, I always wait for the car. Sitting in the office, I hear calls from people asking for his advice and he seems to give various options to trace the problem. Then says, if that doesn't work bring it in and we'll take a look. Gene is a genial guy and exudes a warm down-to-earth quality that I appreciate. When I first called and spoke to one of his staff, that staff member was also friendly and very approachable, gladly breaking down costs for me to understand how oil changes lately have gone up in price. Other places I called like V-tech (next door apparently!) were less willing or knowledgeable, just saying that's the price (the V-tech personnel even laughed). So I went with Gene's. When I entered his office and met Gene himself, Gene again told me in detail what oil and filter they'd be installing and the price breakdown. While waiting, I ended up not using the things I brought to keep me occupied. Gene, amidst treating other customers, turned out to be like the uncle next door, willing to chat like how I see in films depicting small town stores and barber shops. His family surrounds him in a gallery of photos. He even offered me a doughnut and a couple of napkins from a box that he said other customers gave them. (Thank you, fellow customer! ;p) I admired Gene's dedication to his craft. He would discuss specifics with customers, even taking out a magnifying glass to go over the original damaged part so they'd understand what had happened to their vehicle. I recall also (don't know if it was for mine) Gene telling a staff member to make sure to turn off the light and test a car before returning to its owner. That made me feel assured that my car had been treated well. I would come again and recommend others. Wow !!!! I can't begin to express how happy I am that Gene's Auto Repair was recommended to me by some neighborhood friends. Gene, the owner, and his master mechanic Ray are truly a pleasure to work with. Both are excellent communicators, knowledgeable, trustworthy and have a high level of integrity. I purchased a 25 year old Toyota 4 Runner with only 100K miles for my 16 year old daughter. I had reservations about buying a vehicle this old but overall the 4 Runner was and in good shape and most importantly its a safe car and my daughter loves it. Gene and Ray did a thorough analysis of the vehicle and determine that it was mechanically in good shape and just needed some brake work and shock replacement. It's also great working with Gene himself, I've never felt like he's tried to upsell me on work I didn't need and there's never been delays in work that was needed.
