Ballroom On The Square - Group Class at Ballroom on the Square

Ballroom On The Square

I can not believe that I stumbled across this wonderful Ballroom. While looking for dance class…read morefor my mother's 85th bday...I found 'Ballroom On The Square.' After discussing classes with a Leraunc, I inquired about the possibility on renting it for a birthday luncheon party. Not only was Leraunc AWESOME in helping me book this venue, he helped with other vendors, going beyond the call of duty and willing to pick-up my rental equipment, rolling up his sleeves to save me money by bringing things up to 2nd floor ballroom, volunteering his help with other items, and to top it off, he is also going to give a 45 minute dance class for the 40 folks coming to the birthday luncheon! HOW ON EARTH CAN IT GET ANY BETTER THAN THAT!!! Leraunc and his team are a true gold mine that I look forward to working with whenever I need to plan a special event while visiting Lancaster. Wish I was around long enough to sign-up for his ongoing dance classes...nothing has blissed me out more than recent Tango classes in NYC. At 60 + taking dance classes is the best thing I've done in 40 years. Looking forward to hearing how my 85 yr old mom does when she starts her dance classes with the caring, helpful, sweet, Leraunc and team.

I do not recommend this dance school unless: A. You really…read morelike financing favoritism And, B. You would like to see your child bullied Unless your child is a favorite, she/he will receive deficient instruction and no attention. My dancer is an accepted student at an arts high school, specifically in the dance program, and she is a scholarship intensive winner. She has only achieved this by attending a different dance school while still taking classes at Visions. When she started ballet and tap at a different dance school (she was waitlisted for ballet despite that she has been dancing at Visions for two years), the instructors at her new school pulled me aside to show me what kind of work was needed to fix her technique. Even time that should have been devoted to developing my dancer's contemporary and modern technique through the teaching and development of choreography for her--her competition solo private lessons--was so squandered that when I submitted a video of her performance to a respected intensive conservatory, they didn't even bother to invite her to audition for a lower level intensive, she was straight to the "waitlist." I then paid another choreographer/instructor for choreography and multiple private lessons to teach it, and the live performance of that piece immediately garnered my daughter admittance to and praise from pre-professional programs. Alongside the obvious lack of interest in technique is a laissez faire attitude towards bullying, and clear lack of appropriateness. "Favorite" dancers can speak badly about and bully other dancers, and there are no consequences. Some of these favorites bullied several dancers to the point that they left the studio entirely, despite being on the competition team. Reinforcing the status of the favorites are class and company placements, which are based on instructor whim or "tracking," seemingly derived from the amount of money a parent can spend at the school, and not dedication or class attendance. Some children are "tracked" to be held back from advanced classes or pointe, while favorites are fast-tracked, despite that their classroom attendance is spottier and their in-class time is spent on "messing around." Worse yet is treating a clique of children as one dancer, placing them in classes and dance company and on stage as though they all shared similar mastery, and treating their relationships as though it were a standard criterion for placement. Placing a group of children together in a Senior company despite that they are all middle school children and moving older children to dance with elementary schoolers because the middle school clique "dances well together" seems out of place in a so-called pre-professional dance company setting, as professional dancers rarely get to choose their stage mates. Overall I do not recommend this dance school. We enrolled there because it was very close to our home, but frankly I wish I had just taken some friends' recommendations and gone elsewhere in the beginning.

If I could give this sham of a dance academy zero stars I would. I enrolled my 2-year-old daughter…read morein their Pre-K Dance class for 2 and 3 year olds. It was advertised as exploring creative movement. We get there and the older teacher was just immediately frustrated that the TODDLERS weren't listening. The class today was the last straw. My 2 year old was doing fine but when it came to mat time, she didn't like her legs being stretched to touch her head so she walked away from the mat with another child and sat on the wall. The teacher told her that she would need to leave if she didn't listen so my child stood up and walked towards me at the window that I was directly behind. The old teacher went up to her and the other little girl and in front of a room full of classmates, parents, and other children told the 2 babies that they were "done" and kicked them out of class. I called after and the old teacher said this was a structured class where they are teaching the girls dance. She said she was "removing the distraction." Meanwhile 3 other little girls were just laying on the mat not doing what they were supposed to do. A structured class for 2 year old toddlers, whatever that possibly means. She embarrassed those children who just didn't feel comfortable getting stretched out by strangers. They are also refusing to refund me the money for the remaining classes that of course my daughter will not be attending. What a joke of an establishment.

Dancers, parents, employees and buyers beware!!! This studio is owned and operated by a scammer…read more Would give zero stars if I could. In March 2025 owner told parents that he misspent all money we paid him for our competition dancers. He said he was completely broke and could not pay us back the thousands he took from us for the purpose of costumes, competition fees and prepaid tuition. Prior to this he was pretending that the business was running smoothly, lying about competition cancellations and cutting practices short or no-showing. Many times he would leave 14 year olds to run the classes with no adult present. He asked parents to pay for the season in advance and collected prepaid budget fees despite breaching the contract and not providing the services promised. 6 days before a competition he admitted to mishandling (stealing?) funds and not paying the competition so our dancers could not attend. Now he is offering to pay parents back via services and continued participation on the team but has not made financial paybacks and is still requesting cash for fees. He is saying he will sell the company and pay us back with that cash although there are under 20 students at this time and nothing worth buying for a potential investor. No assets, debt and an owner with a bad reputation. He begs money for personal expenses from customers and colleagues and is asking for all dancer payments to go through his personal Venmo account instead of the studio. After admitting to taking money and having nothing to repay customers he was spotted at a local casino on April 11, 2025. Do not get scammed. This is not a reputable studio or owner.
