I've been to the "Where Ashby Fell" marker that is about two miles from here in downtown Harrisonburg. This marker is the actual spot where he was shot in the Battle of Harrisonburg.
Turner Ashby Jr. (1828-1862) fought for the Confederacy during the Civil War, serving as cavalry commander and eventual promotion to general following the Battle of Good's Farm though the promotion was never confirmed by the Confederate Senate.
The marker is at the end of a short lane where there is a cul-de-sac. It's surrounded by a low fence.
