Bruce was amazing! I went for an appraisal and ended up getting a tutorial on what to look for in diamonds instead. He was super helpful, honest, and cares about his customers. He doesn't waste your time and won't take your money if he doesn't have to. Very friendly and knowledgeable. He's even checked up on me a couple of times to see how my search is going, to make sure I get the best deal possible on a ring. Will definitely be coming back and sending business his way. Thank you, Bruce! read more

Bruce never showed up and I called in his ring camera with the phone # left and never called back. I had to find someone else that did an appraisal and obviously the diamond district is overwhelming. read more

I endorse everything said here. Bruce is a real gentleman and a real professional. He did an appraisal for me right before the COVID lockdowns, and now that I'm finally ready to move ahead with getting the insurance coverage I need, I just needed an updated appraisal. I brought in some jewelry as well, and he gave me a spitball estimate. He didn't charge me for anything. Just one important caveat - this is the first week in June, and it looks like the building will shut down by July. So you might want to call him to see if he's resettled somewhere else before just stopping by. read more

I used Bruce for an appraisal on a ring, watch & loose diamond. I found him to be upfront, professional & efficient. He educated me on the increase in value of gold & platinum since I had originally purchased the items. He appraised all of my jewelry in front of me which made me feel very comfortable. I have since referred my friends to him especially a few friends that are planning to get engaged & want advice on purchasing a diamond. One of my friends that went to Bruce for an appraisal discovered that a ring that his mother left him when she passed away was worth over 12K & he originally thought that it only had sentimental value but not actual value. Bruce is the best appraiser in the City. read more

Very transparent about the value of items, Bruce gives it to you like it is and helps you navigate your next steps.

Helpful conversation about jewelry value and what to expect when navigating the resale process. Very informative and fair.

Bruce was amazing! I didn't know much about the appraisal process but he made sure to take his time to educate me on each step and was meticulous and accurate with the appraisal. He educated me about diamonds which was great, all the while being easy going and friendly. Highly recommend using him, he was awesome! read more

Bruce was great! I purchased a ring on a recent trip and wanted to get it appraised for insurance. Bruce took the time to walk me through the finer details of the stone and ring. He showed me what he was looking at through the magnifying glass and thoroughly explained his appraisal evaluation. I already recommended Bruce to a friend looking to get her ring appraised and will go back when I need a reappraisal for my engagement ring and wedding band. read more

I had my watch appraised with Bruce and it was an excellent experience. Bruce is a very entertaining guy and provided honest and outstanding service. His quote was already 40% lower than other appraisers I had enquired with and he even gave me another $10 discount. Plus he checked my engagement ring for free and told me I don't need to get it appraised since I already had a valuation from the seller. Bruce's family has been in the watchmaking/jewelry business for years and this is a place you can come to without any doubts about the quality of service. He is very friendly and communicative and even gave me great tips on how to take care of my watch. He went through the appraisal process and explained to me about his valuation. He even offered to give me advice on future purchases and to just call him if I had any questions. You will have a great experience with Bruce so trust him and go here for all your appraisal needs! read more

The service was above expectations. I received a comprehensive report about my jewelry with 10 minutes. Additionally, I was surprised to learn about the quality of my diamond earrings and retail price. It was above expectations! I highly recommend this company as reliable, honest and professional! Super! I will come back again! read more

Came to Gemologic to appraise an engagement ring I recently purchased. Bruce is a pretty knowledgeable guy no doubt about that. He knows what he is doing. I do wish however he would have gone into some more information between the differences between appraisal types. I went with a retail replacement appraisal which assumes you buy from a brick and mortar store, and the diamond does not have fluorescence. (Full retail price.) Some savvy buyers however will buy diamonds with fluorescence, and from online diamond vendors, like in my case, in an effort to save money. There was a huge disparity between Bruce's appraisal vs what an actual value replacement appraisal would be in my case, so in the end, I ended up not using the Bruce appraisal, and Insured my jewelry for average market value of like florescent diamonds being sold from internet vendors. Which was much closer than what an insurance valuation would be. Being new and inexperienced I did not know what questions I should have asked. Anyway, to sum up this post. Bruce's insurance appraisal was not bad. It was spot on actually, but if you are not looking to buy your goods online, and/or are buying florescent diamonds, it would be more useful if you asked Bruce for an actual replacement value appraisal, which is far more useful to ensure you are not paying inflated premiums. The downside of this is that there is far less of a margin until you need a new appraisal, but since you should be getting appraisals fairly regularly anyway, (within 3 years) Then, it shouldn't be much of an issue, especially since Bruce's prices are just so reasonable. read more

With all of the shady people in the Diamond District, it's really reassuring to know that there are honest people like Bruce. He's refreshingly straightforward, extremely generous with his time and clearly passionate about the work that he does. I can't recommend him enough. read more

Bruce was great. This was my first time getting a ring appraised and insured and he was a helpful resource. I made an inquiry through yelp and his rate/service is very competitive with other appraisal businesses in the area. I had to get my ring appraisal amount adjusted later after my initial appointment and he did it right away and was able to email me the updated appraisal. Definitely recommend! read more

We went to see Bruce for an appraisal, but we did not realize that there was a miscommunication with our insurance company, and we shouldn't have needed and appraisal based on where we bought the jewelry. Bruce realized this after already doing some work on the ring, let us know, and didn't charge us a dime, even upon insisting we pay him for his time. Bruce is clearly an honest businessperson who has a lot of pride in his family's business, and I would not hesitate for a second to return or refer friends to his services. read more

TRUST BRUCE! He tells the honest truth and will not hold back! I sent him an email requesting an appraisal on an engagement ring, and right off the bat, Bruce made sure I wasn't wasting my time and replied in the email that the diamond should be set before he appraises the ring. Therefore, instead of going to Bruce first, I went to get my diamond set. Once I got that done, Bruce told me the jeweler that I went to (Ara at AY Jewelry) did a poor job setting my diamond. Ara did mention that the diamond that I got (rectangular shaped radiant cut) would be difficult to set on the setting because the setting was meant for a square cut diamond. Ara assured me he could make it work, but obviously, he didn't. Bruce recommended another jeweler for me and made sure this jeweler did it right. Additionally, while he was appraising my diamond, I also told him about my horrible experience with Fantasy Diamonds in the diamond district (they rip you off with fake diamonds). Bruce gave me the skinny and said the owners of Fantasy Diamonds previously got kicked out of a kiosk because they were caught switching real diamonds with fake diamonds. HA! Bruce knows all the dirt about the diamond district because his family has been in the business for generations. So if you want the straight, honest opinion about who to go to and who to avoid, talk to BRUCE! The diamond district is filled with too many liars and frauds taking advantage of people when they are emotionally vulnerable. Bruce is not one of them. read more

My sister due to her busy schedule didn't have time to do a ring appraisal herself and as a good little sister I agreed to help her. My close friend recommended me Gemologic appraisal services. She said that the service was reliable and Bruce was very nice and trustworthy. I decided to follow my friend's advice and called in to make an appointment. Everything went smoothly: i was told what the price of the ring would be, Bruce also described the stones and the quality of gold. Very knowledgable, nice and helpful. I am glad my friend recommended me Bruce's service and i am happy to pass on this recommendation to you, Yelpers. read more

My experience with Bruce was easily one of the best that I've had in the diamond district. I didn't come in with an appointment and he stopped what he was doing to make sure that my diamond was legit. He even told me if the diamond was not what I bought, that he would personally escort me to the place and rip the sellers a new one. That, right there, told me I was in good hands. He even showed me the engraving on the diamond (which matched the GIA report) to put my mind at ease. You can tell very quickly that he cares about what he does and does not want to see anybody get ripped off. I would personally recommend going to see Bruce if you need an appraisal on a diamond. I look forward to doing more business with him in the future. read more

I went here after googling places and calling around. I'm so happy I did because Bruce was absolutely fantastic! He took me right at 5:30 without an appointment and walked me through everything he was doing/looking at. He was a great teacher and appraiser. The ring never left my sight and he was incredibly friendly and professional. I can not recommend him or this place enough! read more

Bruce is great! His personality is contagious and he will be the first one to say that he isn't in it for the money like most of the diamond district. Third generation and very knowledgeable about his diamonds. He has very reasonable prices on the appraisal of your items and he does it on the spot in front of you; no appointment necessary! He explains what he is doing throughout the process so you get a little lesson on jewelry while you watch him which is very neat. So honest and straight forward with you about your pieces. He is definitely someone that would be good to say "let me call my guy Bruce" about when you are dealing with retailers selling you items. He calls it like it is! read more

Bruce is the REAL DEAL and he has been there like 30 Years !! Bruce is very HONEST and tells it like it is. Also his prices are fair. I had other appraisers quoting me up to $300 and acting like they were going to be doing me a big favor. Note Bruce costs $75 per carat. so BEFORE you PAY for OR give a deposit on ANY diamond, colored stone, or ANY jewelry Take it to Bruce to appraise it PLEASE Note; ANY legitimate dealer on 47thy street will walk it over to an appraiser that is close by - i.e., on 47th street ( Bruce is on 47th at the end of the street ) WARNING if a dealer wont do this, then RED Flags are raised. CAUTION; Please note; once you pay for something in the Diamond district you will 97% NOT get your money back. I know this from YEARS of personal experience. read more
