Made a hard right into Gembira after doing some business down in Maastricht, The Netherlands.
First, I must mention that it's quite difficult to find a decent, if any Indonesian restaurants in the San Diego. Here in The Netherlands they are more plentiful due to its colonial history in the Indonesian archipelago and Dutch-Indonesian immigrants living in The Netherlands.
It's a small place with two tables...that's because it's basically a take-a-way joint. The food lies behind a clean, glass-covered and refrigerated case. There are typical Indonesian dishes they spoon into plastic tubs (of varying size) for you to take away. Beef Rending, Nasi Kuning (yellow rice), Sambal Goreng Boontjes (spicy green beans) is what this guy took away.
Everything was well made and tasty. The rending could have been spicer but that's what the sambal badjak (Indonesian hot salsa) is for! read more
