What a wonderfully lucky break to find this GEM of a winery! It's got a great selection, a breathtaking view, incredible hospitality, and the host Ciro does a truly delightful and delicious tasting. He knows his stuff and Gelsomina is ABSOLUTELY worth your visit!
On our way from Catania to Giardini Naxos, we decided on a whim to look for a vineyard or winery that was on the way to possibly have a tasting. I called ahead (you need to call ahead to organize tastings at most vineyards in Sicily and it's best to do so here too), and we were able to organize a same-day tasting with just about 2 hours' notice.
The vineyard is fairly easy to find via Google Maps, and when you call to organize it, they'll give you some directions too. It's a bit of a drive off the main road so don't be alarmed as you enter a tiny lane that descends a long way downhill. The payoff is totally worth it.
Our guide Ciro was AMAZING. He set up a tasting at an area with an incredible view and just enough shade from the sun. We started with a glass of their sparkling white and then were taken on a tour of their beautiful vineyard grounds which feature not just grapevines but also cherry, apricot, fig, and pear trees. Our tasting continued accompanied by a selection of delicious spreads made by one of Gelsomina's sister wineries, as well as outstanding local cheeses. We even got to taste a couple wines outside of the normal tasting, including Gelsomina's excellent sparkling rosé.
We walked away with a box full of wines and spreads and were so immensely happy and thankful we found this place!!! read more
