The owner of this store is xenophobic towards people she believes to be Americans. I have been in this store twice over the last 10 years. Each time she has been extremely rude to me because I was speaking to my husband in English. I spoke German to her both times. But she insisted on speaking English to me and was very rude. She even interjected into a conversation I was having with my husband and without having all the information because she wasn't involved in the conversation, she asked us to leave. I had mentioned the words IKEA in her store. Firstly, she makes her living selling goods made in the developing world at an extreme mark up. Where the ethics are in this form of colonial capitalism? Secondly, she has no business making assumptions about people based on the language they are speaking. Especially when that language is one which she depends on to do her purchasing from the developing world distributors. Thirdly, no person in Linz, should be passing judgment on Americans and thinking they are beneath them. Hitler was raised and his formative years were in Linz. Linz became the post war city it is because of money from the American and Allied countries Marshall plan. She needs to review her place where her intolerance for Americans comes from. Fourthly, I am a citizen of Canada and Israel. That is why I speak English so well and with a North American accent. Do not shop at this store. It is run by a person who pretends to have open world values, but sells products made by disadvantaged people and she is a xenephobic bigot. I too am not a fan of the current American administration, but that administration is not representative of all Americans, just like the Austria's government which was in power with the FPO until last year is not representative of all its citizens. Nor would it be appropriate to say that all people in Linz are Nazi's. It's not in their control that 100 plus yeas ago Hitler lived there. This owner needs to check her prejudices. read more
