There is an enormous hothouse, which is definitely worth a visit. But I prefer wandering through the maze of tiny paths crossing through the "jungle" that you find outside. You can find small ponds with fish and beautiful water lilies on the one side, and a herb garden on the other. In between there are loads and loads of plants and flowers, of which you usually can't even spell out the name (which is attached to the plant with a small card), but which look stunningly beautiful. If you are looking for a quiet place away from all the students in the Schlossgarten, grab a coffee and take a walk through this beautiful, tiny world of its own.

The hidden alternative to the Botanic Garden in the city centre…read more We stumbled across this garden by accident, and I was pleasantly surprised as soon as I stepped through the gates. The Aromagarten is part of the Botanic Gardens belonging to the university and it's definitely worth the walk from the centre. A great place for a relaxed stroll on your own or with someone else, there are various paths leading through the area, with plenty of benches every here and there. Definitely a quiet spot to sit or walk during summer (well, april to october). Sadly it's only open til 6pm, but it's definitely one of my favourite new "secret" spots in Erlangen! Bottom line: * Great place to relax... * ...go for a walk or sit and relax with a book... * ...hidden away and relatively unknown... * ...you'll definitely find some piece and quiet here (unlike the crowded Schlossgarten)!
