Espresso really outdid themselves today for the omelet I had (tomatoes, bell peppers, mozzarella…read moreand sheep's cheese - they were out of mushrooms so I went with double cheese.) ;-) I also had their whole wheat bread that I so adore, with raspberry jam, and a melange.
My fiancé had a cappuccino (identical to the melange, including its size) with the "Gesundes frühstück" ("healthy breakfast"), which includes:
hummus,*
sheep's or goat's cheese,
a type of spicy salsa/sauce,
"Topfen mit Krauter" (something akin to cream cheese with herbs),
fresh cucumbers and cherry tomatoes,
fresh fruit and yogurt, and
a few olives.
It ALSO comes with some bread and freshly-squeezed orange juice. But a picture's worth a thousand words - check out Andreas "Mr. Yelp Wien"'s photo of the Gesundes frühstück and see it for yourself! I might have to get that next time..
Unfortunately, the service was really slow today because the place was completely packed outside, and there were a few people inside, too. However, our waiter (who is always the waiter there) actually apologized when we paid, and B (my fiancé) quipped, "I think that's the first time in Viennese, no, European history, that a waiter has apologized for slow service." He was really nice and doing his best, and the food was great, so I maintain that Espresso gets 5 stars.
*Bonus points because this is the first place in Vienna with hummus I liked!
