AVOID THIS WARD This…read moreward helped me resolve major problems in my life over many years. Using the principle of "contrast to build preference" I came to realize what I do not want to be by the examples of many ward members. I have lived in the ward boundaries for 24 years. Until the last six months I attended every meeting no matter what. I learned that many of the judgments against me were by people who did not attend their meetings which is a Temple recommend requirement. Using the principle "let virtue garnish thy thoughts" which is the theme of the book "Ask and it is Given" this ward has significant problems on all levels. I adopted the phrase "I am not educated (by college standards) or medicated". I was constantly intimidated to behave in this manner which I refused. My profession for 40 years is IT and fixing extremely complex problems. This makes me very different from the average ward member. People generally shoot at something they do not understand. Years ago one couple spoke at a Sunday meeting and stated they were best friends. At the same time, they hissed at each other publicly. I decided at that moment that I did not want to behave that way going forward. This group of people roughed me up for 20 years and then used gossip and the lack of truth principle to excommunicate me using the excuse "Mark makes the church look bad". I was a church member for 40 years. A similar experience happened many years ago when I asked the question "if this is the Church of Jesus Christ, why are we stealing software". Even after my excommunication I continued to attend meetings until I realized I do not want to be around this negative influence. My experiences outside of this ward in the public are extremely positive and using the principle "in contrast to build preference" my preference is to be with people who are kind, loving, positive, and hopeful. For 23 years it was "change to how I behave, so we feel at peace". I do not feel this ward is "family-friendly". I repeatedly asked people to avoid giving my daughter candy and other poor food choices when she was very young. We homeschooled our daughter and were discriminated as a result. We adopted proven alternative medical practices and were discriminated against. I feel it's very important to celebrate the differences and learn versus judge. This group has helped me to seek to understand versus judge. As I got older I looked for creative ways to deal with aging because of what I saw in this ward. I am confident that this shook people real bad to the point of wanting me out of their presence and using every dirty trick they could think of to avoid looking at the situation with a different set of eyes. Prior to this ward, I was in 12 different wards. I came to realize that if you like where you live and the ward boundaries do not change you are in for trouble after 10 years unless you give up your personal power and want to live in fear. I did not appreciate the cheap food at Ward gatherings and the constant mocking of the "Word of Wisdom. Contrast to build preference. I cannot thank these people enough for their example of what I do not want for myself and my family. I watched many times the "innocent abuse of power" by leadership. In one case, it became so bad that I came within one half hour of committing suicide. I am very grateful for this lesson because I realized that if a person has a meeting with the leader they need to leave with "hope". I watched many times double standards. The standard that was used against me was extremely harsh and when I approached people in leadership positions with the same complaints that others had I was told "too bad". The police have had to be called in in the past, I have filed a police report on a ward member. I have been stalked by a woman who was a professional, and feel that the majority of the women in this ward over a very long period of time have significant self-esteem and hormonal issues. I believe there is a pattern that does not respect the gifts and talents of other people. During a very difficult time I asked the Bishop "could we have a word of prayer before traveling" since he was driving. He refused to offer that prayer. Today I would tell him "I will get out of the vehicle until you are ready to pray". At that point because he was the Bishop I accepted this poor behavior. The gossip in this ward terrorizes people and makes church membership virtually impossible. I believe this is a very dangerous situation and attacks the very core principles of the "Gospel of Jesus Christ". My profession puts me in a position to study a situation and come up with solutions. It was very difficult to live and keep the standards of the church and then to be chewed out constantly because I did not think or act like others. This happened time and time again especially when I gave blessings. This ward has taught me how to spot oppression against women.
