Customer service is appalling, don't return calls, lie and just basically pass the buck. Strauss Leather Sofas 1. Scraped on delivery so they sent out their own "Leather Expert" who stated it was a "Natural Scar" which we knew it wasn't, so after much persistence they finally admitted it was damaged on delivery and offered a price reduction which we rejected, and opted for a replacement, so a replacement was ordered. Strauss Leather Sofas 2. Arrived but unable to get arm off to bring it in house, so back it went, then a delay over delivery protocols with their own delivery process which resulted in another company delivering it which added 6 weeks to the time. Then when it arrived it had pressure marks from the way it had been wrapped which again the "Leather Expert" was called out to try and rectify, and it was the same "Expert" [who we have since found out is actually a French polisher] but now employed by Home serve, so confidence wasn't high. He stated they were pressure marks and managed to remove one [which returned a week later] but the ones he couldn't remove suddenly reverted to "Natural Creases" After persisting for a second opinion on the faults, the assistant manager from the Newcastle store made a home visit and fully agreed the sofa was faulted and would arrange a full refund, but he then later contacted us and informed us his Head office did not agree with his assessment based on the pictures they had received from him and it was yet again a "Natural Leather imperfection" So after many more phone calls and store visits we were basically told go to the Ombudsman or choose yet another sofa. We chose the latter as we were basically fed up with the whole situation and went this time for material sofa. Throughout this whole process everyone within the Newcastle store was very apologetic and is in full agreement that we had been treat appallingly and our treatment had fell well short of what it should have, many promises were made throughout including compensation for our treatment, but I am not holding my breath for that. I had gone to Barker and Stonehouse because of their reputation but maybe I live in the wrong postcode or don't drive a Range Rover based on an off the cuff comment that was made during one of our store visits. And just a footnote to this, while we looked around the Newcastle store for our replacement sofa, we came across our first damaged sofa for sale described as "Ex Display" You couldn't make it up!!

For anyone who has never visited, Dunelm Mill is a large shops which sells all sort of marvellous homeware, bed linen, furniture, kitchenware - basically anything you could possibly need for your home! As well as things you don't need but buy anyway just because they are pretty ;) In general the prices are reasonable even when there is not a sale on. The quality of the items which I have purchased has always been excellent, and on the rare occassion that I have had a problem, the staff have handled it well and issued a refund or replacement. Dunelm Mill often have some very good promotions on their bedding, which incidentally is the thing that I tend to shop there for most. They cater for all tastes - whether your home is contemporary or vintage inspired there's bound to be something that you need (or more often just want in my case!). Recently they have also started to sell online. Their web site is http://www.dunelm-mill.com . They do charge for delivery, though it is fairly reasonable at £3.95 for standard delivery or £5.95 for the next day service. They do have quite a lot of their products online; however, it is best to visit instore as they have more variety, and also the best end-of-line bargains tend not to appear on the website. Overall, Dunelm Mill is miles ahead of the more expensive homeware shops - great value, as well as offering durable and desirable homeware!

In this particular branch I…read morehave bagged quite a few goodies over the years including a gorgeous prom dress which originally would have cost £100+... and I paid the pricely sum of £5 for it! The staff is made up mainly of volunteers who are always very pleasant and helpful. That was my best buy but there have been others including Next jumpers, Topshop bags and belts, and other designer accessories. Not only is it good to know that you are getting a bargain but you also get that warm fuzzy feeling of knowing that your money is supporting a great, worthwhile cause.

I remember going int here a few years ago before the credit crunch kicked in and found their stuff really quite expensive. However I have been there recently and was surprised at how affordable their furniture is! you'd be hard pushed to find it cheaper elsewhere, and the quality is quite good too. The only thing I do not like about this shop is that I have found the assistants to be quite rude if you ask any questions about items such as measurements or whether there are alternative colours available. It almost makes me hesitate before buying there, as good customer services is very important, especially when shops are doing so badly at the moment so are having to up their game to bag customers' business.

The ground floor has the mens section, jewellery section and makeup section. There's games as well here and some ladies hats and scarves. The first floor is ladies clothing and the second is houseware. The top floor has the restaurant and childrens department. It's a nice store, I have yet to be dissapointed with it, there are often huge reductions towards sale time! It's good to visit when the local warehouse store or topshop store has ran out of your size! The restaurant food is ok, fair prices but nothing special really. Just the usual soup, sausages, beans thing. It does serve an all day breakfast I think that's promoted throughout the store. The staff here are really helpful and friendly they'll chat with anyone any age about what they're buying or what they're up to and the makeup staff are really helpful and knowledgeable about their aimed product. Generally this is a very nice store, easily accesible from the main high street or the hill street centre.

There are several designers rangers running throughout the store including Jasper Conran, John Rocha and Matthew Williamson. I particulalry like the range of bags and the baby section. When Debenhams has a sale there are genuine reductions and bargains to be had so definitely worth a look around.
