From the outside, the restaurant had an inviting charm with its yellow color and wooden accents. This continued inside with classic table settings and a intimacy that remained even for our large group, aided by having our own semi-private room.
No trip to Germany is complete without sampling their classic beer, so I opted for the Schöfferhofer Hefeweizen after looking over the half dozen choices. It was a solid wheat bier. The future bride and groom were kind enough to buy the wedding party a round of champagne which was a delightful way to kick off the meal.
Thankfully the restaurant had menus in English. Right away the entree "Devil's Steak" caught my eye probably due to its unique title, so I ordered it without much more thought. The pork loin dish was topped with roasted peppers, pepperoni slices, and chili sauce with a side of fried potatoes. The meat had a nice, spicy kick and was a great value at €13.50 for how much food I was given.
Overall, the warm ambiance combined with the delicious food made this a perfect venue for the Rehearsal Dinner of my friends. In addition, Ritter Stammhaus will always hold a special place in my heart as it is the first German restaurant I ever dined at. Proust!
