However, I'm around that age and am generally by far the youngest person in the shop when I visit. Most of the clothes are not styles I would wear, but they're very good for basics, particular summer clothes like vest tops, linen-type trousers etc. Recently they've been selling a range designed by David Emanuel which is made up of really quite stylish pieces which you can mix and match with other items. Most of the Bon Marche range goes up to size 24 and the David Emanuel range goes up to a 22. The only real problem with the Staines branch is that there's too much in it, too many rails crammed into too small a space, so you can struggle to move around.

They have sodas, drinks, snacks, food, etc. I was staying overnight in the area and it was the perfect place to grabs drinks and snacks for the hotel room. There are self pay scan kiosks there as well so check out is easy.

This big Tesco Homeplus is a bargain hunter's dream. It stocks all the Tesco clothing ranges,…read morehomewares, some cosmetics and toiletries, toys, electricals, DVDs, CDs, books, all kinds of seasonal goods and much more. As it's out of the way at the back of the Two Rivers shopping centre it hardly ever seems busy - the best time to come is after 5pm (it's open till at least 7pm most nights) and you can pretty much have the place to yourself. Tesco's books are particularly good value and they often do a 2 for £7 for their top paperbacks. The clothing ranges are also good value and the sizes (particularly for men's ranges) go quite high. The Staines Homeplus is generally kept tidy and I've found staff to be helpful. My only two (minor) quibbles would be that sometimes goods are reduced and the first you know about it is when you're paying for them - if you'd known earlier you might have bought more than one item. And secondly, that when it does get busy there often aren't enough tills open so that you end up waiting longer to pay than you'd like.

If you're over 25 you need to take your courage in both hands to go into New Look in Staines…read more Firstly because everyone else in there (including the staff) looks like they should still be at primary school, and secondly because there's so many clothes rails that you'll have to scrum your way through as if you're playing rugby. There's so much in here that you won't know where to start, but it is worth having a rummage as you may come up with something you like. As well as its mainstream clothes New Look does a teen range, a plus-size range, lingerie, shoes and accessories. The shoes are particularly good value as some are leather, but not as expensive as elsewhere.

The menswear department had thinned out and it looked very much like they were in preparation for closing down in 2021. The planning application has already been approved to convert the entire store to apartments. A sad day for Staines being the largest store and I recall working Saturdays in the electrical department managed by London Electricity 30 years ago.

The cosmetics department on the Ground Floor looks smart and has recently been updated, but the further back in the shop you go the scruffier it seems to get. Some of the upper floors also seem a bit scruffy. Sale stock seems to hang around for months and looks very jumble-sale like. Some of the sale clothes look grubby and stained as they've been out on show for so long. I particularly like the Designers at Debenhams section as I have a particular fondness for handbags, but find that the goods in the rest of the shop can be over-priced. Having said that, Debenhams seem to permanently have a sale at the moment which encourages me to shop there a bit more. I haven't ever found the staff in the Staines branch particularly good or particularly helpful. I recently returned something to the store which I'd bought on the Debenhams website and though this is encouraged on the website it turned into a bit of a farce, with the assistant calling the department manager, who had to call his manager and eventually the store manager to find out which buttons to press on the till. All in all, a distinctly average store.

The Staines BHS store has recently been renovated and has been completely transformed in the…read moreprocess. The old design and decor looked like something out of the 1980s so a refit was long overdue. The store now looks much brighter and fresher with some departments (particularly homeware) being improved enormously. The shop is very large, over two floors, with a restaurant on the upper floor. The ground floor, where the ladies ranges are, is still a bit chaotic as there are hundreds of clothes rails crammed in. I've always found the shoe ranges great value for money, the same is true of underwear and costume jewellery. The men's department on the upper floor seems smaller than before the refit, but the homeware section is now fantastic. There are some excellent value items which could pass for designer. Bedding and towels wash really well and last for ages. Well done to BHS for a great transformation.
