I owe a debt of gratitude to MAWA for the enormous leaps my kids have taken developmentally during…read moretheir time there. My eldest daughter started at MAWA when she turned three. By the time she left for kindergarten a couple of years later, she had learned songs and vocabulary in Mandarin and Spanish, was adding, subtracting, and counting into the thousands, doing CVCs, knew all the continents and planets in the solar system, learned all about the biology of humans, animals, insects, and plants, and was making all sorts of cool art projects based on famous artists in history. My other daughter is currently going to MAWA. She started when she turned two with a speech delay and in six months her confidence and speech development has been through the charts. Now, she's able to express her needs more clearly, put phrases and multiple word sentences together, imitate speech patterns, and respond to questions. It's also a game changer that MAWA coordinates with the regional center so their speech and occupational therapists can do sessions at the school to work with your child and cater to their specific developmental needs. What I appreciate most is that it never felt like the kids were just going to school, but were in an environment where they could truly thrive. One of the most rewarding things as a parent is seeing the joy and excitement on your child's face as they explain the lifecycle of a butterfly as they look at a chrysalis on a leaf, or show you the watermelon they grew from a seed in the school garden, or tell you all their favorite fruits and vegetables in Mandarin, or show you how they're able to make raisins dance through buoyancy and gas absorption. For that, I'm forever grateful to Julisa, Carla, Mireya, Esmeralda, Lupe, Gina, Sophie, Jill, Vanessa, Ruhi and all the rest of the MAWA teachers and staff. Thank you for shaping the world of my kids and many others through play.

The teachers are kind, caring, and patient, the admins are helpful, and the student & parent community was amazing. The kids get such a well rounded experience there - two language classes, reading & writing, special on-site "field trips" (aquarium, petting zoo, etc.), science fair, 2 performances each year, spirit week, cultural events, and not to mention the very strong academic (and practical skills from Montessori methods) foundation they receive. It was amazing to see the progress he made there in 3 years. Like many private preschools it's pricey but in my opinion it was worth every penny.

If you are looking for a preschool, I cannot recommend KuiHwa's school enough. Our son went there…read moreuntil we moved to France. Here in France we toured over 12 schools across the country and I haven't been able to find any that are on par with the quality provided at Seedlings. I know many parents have different priorities when it comes to school, so I'll describe what we were looking for and found at this school. - we believe the first 7 years are the most crucial for a child's mental, emotional and intellectual growth. That it sets the framework and capacity of a child's lifelong development into a healthy, respectful, compassionate and intelligent adult. We wanted a preschool that believed this too, and didn't provide a "one size fits all" cookie cutter, year after year do the same thing approach - we wanted a safe, warm, and respectful environment that honors and respects a child and meets them at their developmental level. No shaming, no harshness, no making children feel guilty (because why should we do that to a young child anyways?) if you're looking for a school that will scold and belittle a child, do not put your kid in this school. But if you're looking for a place that will love your child, really see them and celebrate them for their individuality, and take a respectful and open communication approach when any conflicts arise amongst the children, then enroll your child here! - we believe a child loves to learn ... And does it best through play. We believe and trust in their instincts to grow and feel deeply about how they want to grow up. We believe that a child should be given the tools and confidence to be curious, a warm and rich environment to explore and learn from, and a supportive but not imposing adult presence to validate and provide opportunities to understand their interests deeper. If you want your child to come home memorizing their ABCs, songs, perfectly written letters and bring you back worksheets and colored in cookie cutter illustrations then this school isn't the best fit. If you want your child to "learn" through the same materials and work exercises that are based on memorization and not critical thinking, self respect or true creativity... then this place might not be good for you. But if you want the teachers to be there, really present with your child while providing enough autonomy and independence so the children can freely explore their environment and cultivate a LIFE LONG love of, confidence and intellectual tools to continue learning, then this school is it. - we wanted a natural, play based and healthy environment that is more small community/home/tightly knit feeling than institutional. Children want to be outside all the time, playing with sand, mud, sticks, leaves, to discover crystals and bugs, to see how the sun light and water grows the vegetables, and how paint changes when mixed with other things. How different materials feel on their skin. How it feels to swing and climb. To play with toys that aren't the flashy, colorful "we shall mindlessly entertain your kid" types but the kind that teach balance, construction, problem solving and that engage a child's brain. - we wanted our son to be kinder/elementary ready, but not through forced memorization, forced and repetitive tasks and regurgitation. We wanted him to want to learn for himself, for his own interests, for his own growth, and not because he would get rewards, praise or stickers. We wanted him to gain the muscle memory of holding and using a pencil and making confident lines through his own personalized approach, instead of a one size fits all method. Gosh, I could keep talking about how amazing KuiHwa and her school is. My son and I miss them so much. We have been in France for six months and my son still talks about KuiHwa, the school and his friends. He is doing well in his current school which is much more traditional and "academic," and the teachers have observed that he is able to be more creative and thoughtful than his peers who went to a traditional preschool. Thank you KuiHwa, we miss you terribly!

It's a warm, home-based environment where children are truly allowed to be children. The teachers take the time to really get to know each child, treat them as unique individuals, and nurture their curiosity. I never once worried while they were there because I knew they were cared for, safe, and surrounded by love. My boys had the freedom to explore, create, and grow through art, play, hands-on learning, and the amazing yard where they could discover and enjoy nature. Every day felt special--full of creativity, laughter, and genuine care. They had such an interesting, rich preschool life that I will always treasure. KuiHwa, the preschool director, is a one-of-a-kind teacher whose warmth, wisdom, and dedication shine through in everything she does. She made such a difference in my children's early years and gave them the most beautiful start to their educational journey. Leaving was bittersweet, because we were so sad to say goodbye to such a special place. Seedlings Great and Small gave my children not just a foundation for school, but also a love of learning and a true sense of belonging. We will always be grateful for the incredible gift this preschool has been to our family.

The terrific facility has a spacious, shady backyard space, a creek, and a dirt play box with play shovels and trucks (which our kiddo loved during the tour). They also have chickens, with whom the kiddos get to interact and learn responsibility and empathy. I love that most of the day, weather permitting, the kids get ample outside time to continue learning. Hands down, the best reason to enroll is the expert and thoughtful staff. The amount of one-on-one time these kids get also shows how quickly our kiddo learned to read and write. The curriculum is also incredibly well-rounded, exposing the kids to different cultures and customs, fun and educational field trips that engage the kiddos, and weekly activities like gymnastics, yoga, and music. As a parent, I love that they focus on building a community for the kids, but they also want the parents to have a community. For some field trips, like apple picking, parents are encouraged to come along, but they also host kid-free gatherings for the parents, which is a great way to get to know everyone, including the staff. Additionally, Shaunte, Miss Sani, and the rest of the staff is incredibly supportive, not only in the areas where we wanted our kid to grow and learn, but also as a family when we've been going through tough times. Honestly, the LUFLS has been an extended family for us. One of the most valuable aspects of their team is how much they've allowed and helped our kiddo grow emotionally and build his resilience. Our kiddo is a sensitive introvert, and LUFLS has cultivated a safe and nurturing space for him so that he feels comfortable coming out of his shell so much that you might mistake him for an extrovert. I am sad we have to move on to Kinder in the fall, but I am so grateful knowing the Little Urban Farmers' team has helped my kid feel ready for this next big step, and I am thankful for all they've done for us.

I was initially hesitant about home daycares, but after seeing the facility, backyard, and daily activities, I knew this was the perfect fit. Since starting, my son has learned self-regulation, goes to sleep independently (something he never did at home!), and his language has absolutely exploded. He joined with a strong vocabulary and some ASL, but now he expresses himself in so many new ways- it's astonishing to watch. LUFLS is all about learning through doing. The kids explore a chicken coop, care for other animals, play in a dirt box and water stream, do art projects, and even have an independent handwashing station. Outdoors is a favorite; my son's top word is "outside!" Beyond outdoor play, LUFLS offers enrichment like yoga, drama, and gymnastics, and on lighter days the kids enjoy farmers markets, train rides, and beach trips. These experiences foster both community among the children and connections among the adults. Daily updates through ClassDojo keep parents connected, and I couldn't be more thrilled to have found this incredible daycare. I look forward to watching my son grow here.

Having a school that goes till 6pm is so helpful for us as a family with two working parents. We also really appreciate the bilingual education the school provides. We've seen such tremendous strides in our kids comprehension and use of Spanish over the last few years in this program. The teachers at city kids really really care about our girls and we have had lasting relationships with them over the years. They are passionate, hard working, and so dedicated. We have personally had incidents where our kids have needed special considerations, such as dietary restrictions or sleep and nap schedule changes and we have been so touched by the way the school did their absolute best to accommodate those concerns and issues to the best of their ability. They consulted a sleep specialist to find the best solution for one daughter who needed to end naps earlier than usual, and worked with the other daughter's changing dietary restrictions gracefully when we were trying to find out which foods were causing her problems. We have also seen numerous sensitive issues over the years handled with a measured and deft response that secured our confidence in the priorities , abilities, and mission of the school. In parent teacher conferences, we get a thorough written evaluation and ILP ( individualized learning plan) for our child's performance in both Spanish and English programs and can see in detail where our kids are thriving or could use additional assistance. It includes specific recommendations on things to work on for them, such as which numbers they skip in counting , or reverse in writing, or social emotional issues the teachers see while watching the kids play. We are so grateful that the school has such an incredible level of attention to each child's needs. As a family we consider ourselves so lucky to have found this school and couldn't be happier.

The kids are challenged academically and it's been incredible to see how much our 4 year old has learned. The hours are great for working parents and the kids are fed very healthy and interesting foods, helping to expand their palates. Each month they focus on a different global destination and they also learn about social issues in an age-appropriate way. I can't imagine a better preschool experience for our daughter and I'm so thankful for everything she has learned in such a short period of time!

Shama has been an amazing support, resource and caregiver to our son and his classmates. The small size of the school ensures children are given 1:1 attention and support and are able to develop close relationships with their classmates as well. I genuinely believe that she cares deeply about our son, his development, happiness and overall growth. While enrolled in Shama's school, our son developed massively both socially and emotionally. He learned how to be a thoughtful, caring schoolmate and friend; learned his ABCs and even began spelling at the age of 3; and became more independent and adventurous. Shama is focused on helping to make not just her students lives better, but their parent's too. My husband had to go unexpectedly out of town when I was 8 months pregnant, and Shama allowed us to extend our son's days at daycare at a moment's notice to make our lives easier. She is fair, flexible and accommodating. I feel lucky to have been part of her community!
