Is this actually the only entry and review for Versailles to date? Incredible, this is one of the most worthwhile days you can spend around Paris
This is the lavish place from which the absolute Bourbon monarchs (and most particularly Louis XIV and Louis XVI) ruled France and the French Empire at its peak, until the day in October 1789, amidst the French Revolution, when the Women's March over bread shortages forced Louis XVI and Marie-Antoinette to leave Versailles for Paris and...well you know what happened thereafter. Endless history here, and spectacular palatial architecture.
The palace and the gardens are both worth spending hours in, and if you can engineer your schedule, try to visit the gardens when the music and fountains are playing.

(it's a half-hour RER train ride from the centre of Paris, plus really an all-day visit. You can buy a sandwich and picnic in the gardens.) read more
