In short, the worst experience with an auction house I've ever had. Do not do business with Bassenge.
They packed a very valuable print in flimsy single wall cardboard sleeve (suitable perhaps for a hand delivery, certainly not an international trip) that was bent in transit, causing damage of about one third the cost of the print. The damage was not in the photographs sent or listed in the condition report I received before bidding.
The exorbitant cost of shipping led me to believe the print would be protected in transit, but this did not happen-- I had a framed artwork of similar size sent from a different auctioneer in Germany well packed in foam and surrounded in thick cardboard so I assumed Bassenge would take similar care with my print, but this was definitely not the case.
Further, Bassenge mislabeled the country of manufacture on customs forms causing significant shipping delay and an eventual tariff charge of ten percent. Hopefully this will eventually be reversed, but Bassenge will not assist in having it reversed, so there is the possibility that in addition to the inane shipping fees, huge delay, and insulting correspondence I've received from them I may have to pay more for a damaged artwork.
