My teenage son and I took the 5-hr cooking class. It started with the history of Gaby's and cooking basics (the pillars) and her son, Julio, the chef, took us to the market to show us how to pick the best fruits, vegetables, and fish. Then the cooking was on like donkey kong! We made sooooo much stuff, I wish I could go back for another meal to try everything. We learned a lot and it kept my teenager's attention, which is a feat within itself. I've only taken 3-4 cooking classes in my life, but this one was one of the best!

People for sure here are nice. They are efficient and kind. All the dishes are very colorful and flavorful. I liked all of them. They don't just taste the same under the whole Latin umbrella. They all hold their own flavors, I can taste the history of the dish and people's thoughts. I can also taste how important lime is in this culture. The place is cute and locals also come here. Actually this place was recommended by a taxi driver.

This is a well established family owned restaurant passed down from father to daughter (Gaby). Go for the relaxed atmosphere and yummy food. Don't be disappointed with the lackluster service but rather sit back and compliment yourself on finding a place with quality food and inexpensive prices. Warning: multilevel with many stairs to navigate. Sit outside on the open air patio or inside with open walls for fresh air. Bottled wines from Mexico, Argentina & Chile fairly priced with an average of 500 pesos. Food options average 250-350 pesos. Open daily serving breakfast, lunch & dinner. Credit cards. Try it! Worth your time.

I was seated strategically with a view of the slide slow displaying pics of early PV. Amazing what PV has grown into! Still a beautiful place! I asked for a chicken stuffed Chile Rellano with mole and they delivered!!! I also had the homemade guacamole which was very good! Staff attentive!

My brother and I were visiting PV for the long weekend and wanted to sign up for a traditional cooking class. With a quick Yelp search, we stumbled upon Gaby's cooking class with Chef Julio. They had a 12% discount coupon on online booking. We used whatsapp to get the discount from the restaurant owner and were able to book. The chef was gracious enough to accommodate our vegetarian dietary restriction. The class started at 9am. We were a group of about 8-9 people. The group was very diverse. First off, the chef shared some history about Mexico and the food. Next, he made a list of all the dishes that we would be making on the day. He also incorporated any changes we wanted while drafting out the menu. He provided a shopping bag and from there we left for the local market. On the way, we visited several local vendors and procured our ingredients from tortillas, vegetables, fish and nopales. The chef introduced us to the traditional mexican drinks and shared a lot of insights about the culture overall! After gathering all the ingredients, we took Gaby's shuttle back to the restaurant. The team has already setup everything for us on the restaurant rooftop. They took care of rinsing the vegetables thoroughly. We all collaborated and made several salsa variations, chips infused with chili oil, rice, guacamole, tortillas and chili relleno. It was a lot of yummy food. We also tried the traditional mango margaritas. The chef also introduced us to moonshine and tequila. Both tasted strong and great. Overall, it was a fulfilling experience and it was packed with fun. I highly recommend trying this activity out. It's a great idea to learn more about Mexico culture and food.

As a cultural cooking class experience, the intention was good, but the execution fell short. The chef never showed up, and while the mother was kind in stepping in, the entire process was disorganized. The market tour was long, hot, and not well-suited for most participants. Back at the restaurant, each person was given a single job without context, meaning the chance to learn the cuisine as a whole was lost. More of a fragmented activity than a true class. I recently attended the cooking class at Gaby's with Chef Julio and had an incredible experience! The class was well-organized, hands-on, and informative, making it perfect for both beginners and more experienced home cooks. Chef Julio was knowledgeable, patient, and engaging, breaking down each step clearly and offering helpful tips throughout the session. The class included walking to the market to purchased fresh and high-quality, ingredients. The final dishes we prepared were absolutely delicious. Shout out to Aldo and Dulce too!!! By far one of the best experiences I have had!!

Excelent food!!!! Clean and Nice place, and waiters too. I ate a shrimp with coco, it was delicious

Food. Service. Ambiance. All great. All I can say is wow. From drinks & appetizers to dinner- all were tasty and amazing. Let me say Jalisco avocado guacamole hits different and the pasta ajillo is a must for any aglio olio and peperoncino fans. We will 100% be back and we can't wait to hear some mariachi while dining.

Great restaurant near old town, the plaza principal and the flea market. Best fish I have had on this trip. Also very reasonably priced.

You have to pluck a third of the meat with your fingers just to get the tortilla to structurally hold. There is always a line. You eat what you order and leave behind your self respect. The dining room is packed tighter than a turtle's pecker. A dozen staff members move around each other like bees tending the hive, the rhythm wild and relentless. The tacos themselves are intimidatingly large, the vibe unlike anything I have ever seen. It's thicker, more cheesy than what I've ever had before and very delicious. We paired that with the prime rib tacos, it was a plate stacked with meat and 4 tortillas under it, more than we could eat. The seasoning was great, it was diced so small that it was easy to eat. Vegans are easy please. Give them clear marked options, even if there is one option, we are pleased. This place had a few clearly marked options plus the staff was fully aware and can provide suggestions. The only downside it is a cash only place. Guacamole and chips - fantastic. The guacamole freshly prepared and chips fresh fried. Amazing. The 3 types of vegan tacos we got were vegan chorizo, mushrooms and cactus (trying for the fist time). The vegan chorizo was the best, slightly spicy but not overly. The poblano peppers were predictable but very good. The onions with it were a good addition. Nicely seasoned and prepared. The cactus was good, we found that it was less seasoned. Just stir fried cactus. The star of all the three types tacos was the fresh blue corn tacos. We could have those everyday. The other superb tasting was the salsas and fresh toppings. 4 types of salsas, white onions and cilantro. The salsa were of varying different levels of heat and even the mildest salsa was the best. The virgin margarita and virgin mojito were great. Margarita being slightly better even though we love mint. Good atmosphere, clean surrounding and great service and vegan food - what more can one ask?

The entire front portion of the restaurant sits directly in the sand, so that's where we chose to have breakfast--under the iconic palapa roof, feet in the sand, overlooking the ocean. From our table you can watch the fishing boats and excursion boats heading out for the day, which gives the whole experience a relaxed, resort-like rhythm without feeling touristy or rushed. Service was excellent from the start--attentive, warm, and genuinely welcoming. They brought out a selection of pastries you can add if you want, like banana bread and cinnamon rolls, which felt like a thoughtful touch rather than an upsell. The coffee was very good, with plenty of options ranging from cappuccinos and café lattes to classic American coffee, all well prepared. For food, I ordered the scrambled eggs with Mexican chorizo, refried beans, and hash browns. It came with a basket of warm corn tortillas and several house salsas, letting you customize each bite. Everything was flavorful, comforting, and clearly made with care. We also ordered the shrimp eggs Benedict with spinach, which was beautifully done--rich, balanced, and fresh, with the shrimp cooked just right. One thing that really stands out is the ambiance. Being right on the beach, hearing the waves, feeling the breeze, and being encouraged (without being told) to slow down and take your time makes the meal feel like part of the vacation itself, not just fuel for the day. They also offer freshly squeezed juices, which pair perfectly with breakfast by the ocean. The menu is extensive, almost overwhelming in a good way--there are so many appealing options that it's genuinely hard to decide. That said, what we ordered was absolutely delicious and satisfying, and it left us wanting to come back and try more. Overall, La Palapa delivers on every level: location, atmosphere, food, and service. It's the kind of place where breakfast turns into a memory, not just a meal.
