I was however, convinced that this little school offers the same high quality, but in a smaller environment, which is a definite plus. The director is very aware of everything at all times and really cares about the kids. The playgrounds are beautiful, large, private, and well-equipped. A real gem!

They get to dig around in the garden. They are always treated with respect at all times and are encouraged to question and explore. The Smoke Rise campus is TSS' newest campus so it has doubled or tripled in size since we joined. As a result there has been some staff turnover, but the staff still changes much less than any school we previously attended. Their Reggio Emilia approach has my children feeling capable and confident. Why can't all schools be like this one!?

We discussed the months we would be living in Atlanta, that I was interested in having them in the summer program, and that my oldest was not currently enrolled in a montessori program (he is only 4). We scheduled a call as I am not currently living in the area. I had to email the director the day of to see if she was still available for a call. Atlanta was on a weather closure but the director never communicated this to me. We rescheduled for a couple days later. The entire phone call consisted of why my children could not attend (we aren't currently enrolled, I could not start that late in the semester, they are not current montessori students etc). All of her reasonings for why my children would not be accepted at Springmont were topics discussed via email. Not only did she waste my time by not cancelling the initial call, she wasted my time with questions that were incorrectly answered via the initial email communication. I would not write a check to this school nor would I trust this director and her unprofessionalism with my children.

He had attended Sarah…read moreSmith in elementary school and we were not sure that Sutton was a good fit for him so we did a tour of FMSA, which happened to be on the day of their 6th year presentations. We were blown away at how composed, articulate, and kind the students were. Each child did a 20 minutes PowerPoint presentation in front of 50 people with poise and aplomb. The A/V went out during one presentation and the other kids swooped in to the rescue, fixing the problem. Our son was unusual because most kids grew up in the Montessori system where he did not. He thrived from day one and became an ambassador for the school. He would tell the other kids that they did not realize how lucky they were. He spent 3 years at the school and was reading at the level of a sophomore in college when he was in 8th grade. (He didn't know that....the beauty of Montessori is you are never ever bored). He learned how to mediate disagreements, he worked on a farm at the land school, hanging drywall, he ran a school lunch program and blossomed into a confident, poised young man. I cannot say enough good things about this school. I wish that I had gone to Montessori; it is that impressive.

I was very apprehensive because change can often be a huge challenge for neurodivergent children. But from the moment you walk inside the school, you feel the warm welcome and see the caring way that the children are treated. Every morning, the owner, Mrs. Scarborough, the principal, and several of the teachers are out front welcoming the children as they walk through the door. At the end of the school day, those same people are out front, ensuring that each child is safely getting into their assigned cars. And the teachers are AMAZING! My son received a great education, exceptional support, as well as valuable lessons in life from teachers whom I felt treated him as if he were their own. One of the best things that I loved was the diversity of students. Because the children all have learning exceptionalities, they all "get each other," so I never received those dreaded phone calls from the school about major meltdowns or bullying. The teachers and in-house counselors are extremely proactive in working directly with the children to resolve their differences, so my son felt safe, secure, and right at home from the first week that he got there. It's a great feeling to go to work and not worry about your child at school, so I was very relieved that he had "found his tribe". Their athletic department is outstanding. And Coach Carlock is amazing! He is patient, encouraging, and a tremendous self-esteem builder for any child that wants to play sports. And the coaching staff ensures that ALL of the children get a chance to participate in sports that they never dreamed they could play. My son participated in track, basketball, bowling, and golf. Two of these sports he had never tried before but became confident in his skills after receiving so much encouragement from all of the coaches. As the parent of a neurodivergent child, I am extremely proud to say that Cumberland Academy of Georgia instilled a level of confidence and self-esteem that I had always hoped for my son to have. The proof that they are an exceptional school is that my son was accepted and is currently attending Morehouse College. Morehouse College is considered one of the country's top elite historically black colleges and universities (HBCU). Parents of neurodivergent kids are often happy just seeing our kids make it through high school, so it was such a tremendous accomplishment that my son could attend such a prestigious school. Cumberland gave him the tools and the confidence to succeed there, and I am happy to say that he has successfully completed his first semester! Thank you Cumberland!

Love this school. I'm a nerd so I created a spreadsheet of 25 Atlanta intown preschools, went on…read moretours at 6 or 7 of them, and submitted applications to 3. Got my kid into all 3, and chose IPCP. Why did we choose it? The co-op approach. It's not for everyone -- you might just want a transactional relationship with your preschool, you do you -- but I was looking for a place where I could feel more involved. The coolest way to get involved is as a Parent Helper -- 1 day per month you get to (have to) work as a teacher's helper in the classroom. That's a lot of fun, you get to see what your kid is doing all day, and you learn a few new songs. Also love the outdoor focus - unless it's pouring, kids spend almost half their day outside, which I think makes my son happier and less cranky. The biggest downside is that they have limited space. So may Lady Luck be on your side.

Updating, since we're still here at IPCP 7 years later! We have now had all four of our children go…read morethrough IPCP (with the youngest graduating this spring) and everything written below still holds. This school has been such an amazing place for our kids and an incredible community for our entire family. The play-based learning and conscious discipline approach has given our kids a great start, and we have loved the opportunity to be involved every step of the way. Word to the wise: some of the materials here are not large enough for a class set. $16.99 for a 100-piece set of snap cubes? C'mon... This is when you need to be smart about your purchases. Some things are actually valuable to your classroom for a reasonable prices. Others are more of a capitalization on the cute-teacher factor. All in all, this location has a good selection, but not as "HOO-RAY!" as other School Box locations seem. Gets the job done.
