Although we did not have a common language, the man who helped me was very friendly about my irregular order of one of half a dozen different types of sweets. He also gave me a free sample of one type of sweet that I hadn't chosen. Unfortunately I didn't learn the names of anything I bought, so I still don't know what we tasted, but it was all rather interesting. Nothing was so amazing that I felt I absolutely had to figure out what it was called so that I could look up a recipe later. It was quite affordable. Stop by if you happen to be in the area, but certainly don't make a trip just to visit the shop.

Normally in the US I would stay away from such a desert, but this wasn't too sweet if you can imagine that. I missed this establishment initially as the signage is a bit faded, and the store front is lackluster. However, once you get past the display counters, it does open up in to a long seating area with both inside and outdoor patio seating.

Pretty good Börek…read more This place sits nicely on Mühürdar Caddesi in the middle of all the action in Kadiköy. There are a few tables outside....a good choice to enjoy the weather and to do some people-watching. We grabbed a coke, a yoghurt drink and a plate of spinach Börek. Service was fast and friendly, prices are low. The Börek was pretty good, fresh and crispy. Lacked maybe a bit of seasoning. But nicely presented and perfect for a little snack. Choices here in Kadiköy are plenty....for good prices (compared to Sultanahmet). And this little place here is a good choice to grab a drink and a bite.

This visit was fairly straightforward. A number of times, my guy has bought me a couple of almond cookies, either after work on this trip that we took together, or when he comes home after visiting Istanbul. It's funny, but he has never asked me whether I like almond cookies. Luckily, I do. We travelled to this bakery one evening. I figured out the Turkish name of these cookies and took a photo. I also looked at the other baked goods available. I loved looking at the coconut macaroons. There was a gingerbread house that looked like a lot of care was taken to assemble it. I also admired the macarons available. I got more almond cookies. They are big, yummy, and not all that sweet. You do need to wash them down with a beverage, as they aren't exceedingly moist. Folks here were accommodating and friendly to a couple of non-Turkish folks. I do miss those almond cookies. I would love to head back here again. (69)

This little stand is right outside of this bakery.. Probably part of the bakery? The Sahleb there was delicious and not too sweet..
