The lines where very long when we reached Sirmoine for both directions on Lake Garda. I wanted to try the ferry in one direction and the cab in the other. First, there is not an abundance of cabs in Sirmione and I saw lines of people waiting for cabs. Then, the cab driver charged me an "extra fee because I only had one person and it was high-season" and €2 more because I wanted to charge it on my credit card. So, the drive from Sirmoine to Desenzano train station takes longer and was six times more expensive. If the weather is nice, I think I would just take the ferry. Some ferries you can bring cars, bikes, and limited luggage. Some offer food and beverages. The prices, of course, are based on how far you travel in the lake.
