I love the Ridgewood Market!…read more This Sunday was the first time that I attended. It actually took place on Summerfield Street, which is right near my house (so I had no excuse not to attend!). So my local artisans and businesses were represented here! Not only establishments from Ridgewood (Norma's, Rudy's) but there are tons of other cool vendors from all over NYC represented here! MartiniHandmades (from whom I got an awesome terrarium and bracelet), an awesome empanada table, someone serving shrimp and grits! So many local artists, jewelry makers and thrift stores! I know that this market is awesome, because even my boyfriend, who usually does not enjoy these types of things, found several vendors, items and foods that he loved! Score! Everyone was friendly and some vendors even took credit cards! What a great way to get to meet people from your neighborhood and support local artisans! I can't wait to do all of my holiday shopping at Ridgewood Market!

It actually is a monthly event held at Gottscheer Hall; I stopped by the initial one in April. It is categorized on Yelp as a "flea market" at moment, but that is really a misnomer; while there were a few booths selling used goods it is predominantly an indoor arts & crafts fair, with some booths selling food products to boot. This might be a good place to check if you were buying gifts; the majority of the goods are likely more appealing to women than men from my judgement. One aspect I do appreciate is that the vendor pool seems to display a relatively diverse range of ages, ethnicities, and tastes and the same goes for the crowd perhaps due to advertising that is also locally-focused; it doesn't feel so much like some of the similar craft markets held in other boroughs, but has a less-pretentious, very neighborhoodly Queens vibe. It seems to, consciously or not, embody Ridgewood quite well rather than attempting to replicate an outside aesthetic in this old neighborhood. Hopefully it becomes even more diverse and representative of the neighborhood as the event evolves. The best part is seeing so many people at Gottscheer Hall for a public event during daytime hours, as well as being able to get eggs and other brunchtime foods they don't normally serve.

I ordered a big arrangement of 30 flowers that was on their website over the phone, asked the woman…read moreto pull up the picture and tell me if she had the correct flowers and could make that, she said yes and they sent a cheap arrangement with 8 flowers, then denied it even though I have pictures. I called them, the florist denied it and argued with me. She told me they can't give me 30 flowers for that price and basically I was crazy to think that! It's on their website and they set the price, which I told her but she said she's running a business and can't afford to give me that at that price. The website also states a 100% guarantee of satisfaction or money back. Bullshit. She also claimed she sent me the finished product via text, she did not. Total rip off, nasty!

As a visitor to Beacon, New York, O was happy to find this small flea/farmer's market off the main…read morestreet. Found New York Textile Lab's kiosk there. Bought a beautiful organic cotton, wool, and alpaca hoodie for travel to Japan in October! Also found cotton /wool blend socks for the same upcoming trip! Woo hoo! Scored! There was also a long line for ??? So we queued up to see why... By the time we got to the front of the line, the display cases were mostly empty of baked goods (it was a bakery kiosk!) but we shared one (1) chocolate pretzel croissant. Didn't look impressive, but looks can be deceiving! Wow! What a delicious, flavorful chocolate croissant, crispy on the outside and an explosion of chocolate in the moist interior! We should have bought more! Overall a great flea/farmers' market! Try it!

There are stacks of 33.3 rpm vinyl records; maybe you'll find something. It's ironic that most people got rid of them when it was almost impossible to find phonograph needles several decades ago. Remember Walk-man's MP-3's? Where are they now?! Stalls of clothing, semi-antiques, jewelry, old magazines and toys. There are some things that make you wonder; like old black and white, family photos in albums. Who were these people and how did they end up a flea market? There's no captions. Such as; uncle So & So at cousin X's wedding, or our first new car. It's a little sad.
