I booked a visit at the Aquamadre Hammam for the women's only night during my trip to Rome. While…read moreI was planning the trip, I knew that I would need some relaxation and pampering after a long transatlantic flight and many days of trekking throughout the amazing city that is Rome. Located in the Jewish ghetto part of the city, the hammam is beautiful and totally charming. The staff were kind and professional, and there is always someone to help guide you through the process. You start by changing out of your clothes in the dressing room, and you can either go totally nude or wear some version of a bathing suit - there were women who did both, so just choose your preference. From there, you are led down to the grottos beneath the main building into a beautifully candle lit space. They will hand you a small bowl of soap and ask you to clean your body, and they will pour warm water over you which is so relaxing. From there, you will alternate between the heated steam room and back into the main room which is warm, but less heated. I highly recommend dousing yourself in cold water while you are in the steam room, its very relaxing for the nerves. Once you have had your fill of that, they will lead you to another marble slab where you lay down and they will scrub your body from head to toe - I never felt more clean! Afterwards, you will retreat to a cool pool of water and relax there. If you did not book a treatment, you would then go back upstairs in their lounge room where fresh tea will be waiting for you. I proceeded to have the lavender honey facial done, which was lovely but frankly could have skipped it just because I was already so blissed out from the hammam experience. It did moisturize my weary skin though, which was going bonkers from travel. If you have time afterwards, I would highly recommend going to eat at one of the many kosher restaurants in the area - get the fried artichoke if it is in season! All in all, a wonderful experience and I would definitely do it again if I were in Rome. Budget at least 2 hours for the process from start to finish.

We picked The Hive Hotel because it was a 4 -star hotel in walking distance of the train station…read more The Junior Suite was large with a comfortable bed and two types of pillows to choose from. The prices at the minibar were also reasonable. We were, however, disappointed with the shower. It was a handheld nozzle type that would not stay up, and kept sliding down. We were there for only one night and had a train to catch that morning, so we didn't report it until we were on the way out. The soap dispenser was also broken. The shower issues weren't a total surprise because unfortunately in most of our travels in Europe showers seem to be an issue. While checking in, I saw that they had a rooftop restaurant. The front desk also gave us a 20% off coupon so we were sold. The view at the restaurant was very nice. My husband and I both ordered the filets and they were cooked just right and absolutely delicious. The service was also excellent. This was the best dinner we had the entire trip, and the price was reasonable.

My roommate and I walked up and down those hive shaped stairs more times than I can remember. The elevator always seemed to be full, so the stairs seemed like a better option. The stairs were actually very nice with large windows. It was a bit disappointing to not have an iron or steamer in the room. I asked about an iron at the front desk and they said they could let me know when an iron was available and bring it to my room. I decided to skip it and not worry about a few wrinkles in my clothes. The bed was very comfortable, and my roommate and I were very happy with the cleanliness of the room. The breakfast was great with many different hot and cold food and drink options. I would definitely stay here next time I come to Rome!

You enter by ringing the bell and the door is answered like it would be if you were a guest at someone's home. There is a wonderful bar with snacks in one of the living areas which is complimentary at all times. It is just one of the many touches that sets this place apart from the typical hotel. The location is also spectacular-it is on a hill right next to the Presidential Palace so lovely and very safe at all times. If you're looking for a very special place to stay, and are not interested in a large luxury hotel experience, Villa Spalletti is your place. It offers all that a luxury commercialized property does with none of the fanfare and crowds. It is incredibly special. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Rome!
